Does anyone ever get the feeling??

I've been wanting to ask someone for quite awhile, but do you ever get the feeling you should do something for a total and sometimes scary stranger?
In Sept I had a coupon for a free chicken sandwich with the purchase of a med drink, as I drove up to the drive up I saw a man sitting on the curb next to the door drinking a cup of water probably given to him by McDonalds. Something in my head said he hadn't had lunch yet, and I pull up to the speaker and I had a strong feeling this guy hadn't had lunch and I felt guilty when I tried to order. I drove back around, really ticking a few people off because this was lunch rush, stopped and asked the guy if he had had lunch and he said no and I gave him my coupon and some money for the drink, he told me I was an angel. As I drove off to another drive through up the street I felt like a weight had been taken off my shoulders, not a goodie goodie kind of thing and I never told anyone cuz they would think I'm nuts.
This is not the first time this has happened, I've given total strangers a ride home, now that is crazy. Last fall I thought I should buy socks for a homeless man but was to afraid to give them to him, walking around dollar general with socks for about a half an hour, then 2 paramedics walked in. I walked up to these 2 guys who probably thought I belonged on the ward and asked if they would give the socks to the guy sitting out on the bench because he scared me, they went over and put them on his feet saying a lady wants you to have these socks.
Now this stuff has been happening sence I was a child, help people carry groceries to their cars, once I went into an older mans home and changed a light bulb because he said he couldn't get a hold of his son, he just asked me from his porch as I walked by. The list goes on, none of this even phases me until after I've done it and then wondered what could have happened, thought man that wasn't to smart. I was in Wal-Mart with my mom and an older woman was looking at the shelf, I just said sweety what can't you reach she told me and I put it in her cart, mom wondered how I knew the lady wasn't just looking, I told her I didn't I just asked what she wanted off the shelf.
So does this happen to anyone else? I'm not Eli Stone, I don't have visions or crazy stuff like that, sometimes I get a feeling and even more scary sometimes I just do stuff and don't think much about it until later, I'm sure this is how people get stabbed to death in an alley somewhere.
I don't need to hear how God works, I went to Lutheran school for 9 years, not being rude, not looking for an ata girl, I just need to know does this happen to anyone else?
Keep your hands to yourself, leave other people's things alone, and be kind to one another.

I believe thats the way God gets people to help someone that needs help. He knows what they need and puts it on our hearts to help them. Thats the way I believe and yes I've done stuff like that for people. Our pastor used to say you could be entertaining angels and he wants to see if you'll help them. Kind of like a test.

I do help strangers too when I get the feeling that I should. I believe the feeling is God telling me to do it. There are also times that I want to help and the feeling is to not to do it. All of those times it has been on here and the people have eventually been shown to be scammers.

I also believe that it is God speaking to you. As another poster said, you never know when you might "entertaining angels unaware". What this means is that there are angels among us 'testing' us, so to speak. How many people just pass them by or do anything they can to avoid getting close to them? But, even if they aren't angels, these people are God's children as well.

Personally, I think that God has blessed you with an intuitive gift and a sensitivity to people in need.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

Typically I would not even discuss this. I think that good deeds should be done in private, and that we are to receive NO recognition for them.

However, I think the OP is hoping to inspire others.

This happens to me ALOT. I use to pick up people ALL the time. I still do sometimes. It sort of depends on if I have my whole family in the vehicle with me and whether I have a gun on me or our dog in the car.

I don't mind placing MY safety at risk to help others, I draw a line though with my wife and kids.

I know that I probably should have more faith that God will protect my family should I be unable to, but we all have our weaknesses.

I get frustrated sometimes, because there are MANY people out there who are actually begging because they don't want to work!!

They have actually done stories on the news in Indy about it! Some people who get full SSI and other benefits get dropped off to stand and collect money!

Sad! I know that I am supposed to give cheerfully when I am able, and not concern myself with whether they really NEED it or what they will do with it.

Recently I saw a pretty ragged looking guy holding a sign. It said HUNGRY.

I caught myself thinking, "man I am sick of all of the begging and the worry over should I or shouldn't I!". Immediately after I felt bad!!

I stopped and got out of my car and walked over to the guy.

He kind of freaked at first, thinking I was challenging or threatening him.

It was clear that he had some sort of mental/psychological issues. I calmed him and said I just wanted to actually face him and see if I could help. HE was very grateful. He KNEW that he was sort of scary to people and that was why most ignored him or grabbed a sandwhich and just pulled up and sort of tossed it to him.

We talked about where he was going and the state of "Christian" charity in the area.

He really wanted some cold whole milk as he hadn't had any in some time. I got him some and gave him a couple of dollars. Right when I was getting ready to leave him another man brought him a big sub sandwhich.

I moved so the vehicle could pull up then I came back to finish our conversation. I asked him if he was saved and he confirmed that he was. He then asked ME if I were hungry! HE said that half of the sub was all he needed and he would split it with me! I laughed and told him to save the rest for later!

The man told me that a couple of people started coming to see him and offer help and ask what he needed after I had stopped.

Sometimes, all it takes is ONE person to try to make a difference for people.

Don't think about "what if my co workers or church members see me and misunderstand", do what you KNOW to be right.

    It has a domino effect.

Just like the OP, I wan't NO kudos.

Thank you for your replies. When I woke up this morning my first thought was why did you write this and to contact a monitor and have it deleted because either people will think I'm a brick short of a full load or want some sort of kudos. I just needed to know others have felt the same overwhelming need to do something for someone who hasn't asked for it. And the serious guilt when I've had these feelings and not done what I thought I should.

I understand completely. I won't give someone a ride or give money but I have given people food before. When I was fresh out of college I went grocery shopping and saw a woman with a sign that said something about being hungry and having kids. I went into the store and did my shopping. I also picked up a bag of apples, a loaf of bread and some other items. I had them bagged separately. I figured if she was still there when I left then it was meant for her. She was there and I gave her the bag. She started to cry she was so grateful. It's been about 15 years and I still think of her. I hope she managed to get her life straightened out.

When I was 16 I worked at McDonald's. There was a homeless guy who came around sometimes. Most of the employees made fun of him or were rude. He did stink something awful. One time I saw him digging through the dumpsters looking for food. I felt bad for him. When food would go over it's allotted time and need to be thrown away I started taking it and putting it in a bag. When my shift was over instead of throwing the bag in the dumpster I'd set it behind the dumpsters in an open field.

about 7 years ago, while visiting NYC between Christmas and New Years, we were wandering around times square (dh lived there for a number of years before we were married, so we weren't "tourists")... anyway, it was cold enough to freeze your aerolas off, and come around a corner and there is a lady NAKED huddled up on the sidewalk... NY'ers just walking on by like they don't see her shivering in 3 degree weather!

It tore me up to think that, this lady could be ANYONE, and worst, could be someone's mother...at the very least someone's daughter.

I went into the little boutique store across from where she was huddling and bought (I guessed her size -- smaller than me, so XS) her pants, bra, sweater, underwear, belt, socks, shoes, gloves and hat and a coat -- total came to just over $250. Then I made my dh (he wasn't happy about it) go and get her a few vendor dogs and a cup of coffee.

Her face just lit up when I gave her the items.

Thanks for reminding me of this event -- I had forgotten about it until I read your story.

I dont consider myself a hero or an angel -- just someone who doesn't think twice about helping someone less fortunate than myself.

Blessings to you and your family.
2 days from now, tomorrow will be yesterday.

I too believe that is God.. or the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart.. to help one of his... that is one of the reasons we are here.. to serve our fellow man...

Matthew 25:35-40 -- For I became hungry and you gave me something to eat; I got thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you received me hospitably; naked, and you clothed me. I fell sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous ones will answer him with the words, 'Lord, when did we see you [singular] hungry and feed you, or thirsty, and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and receive you hospitably, or naked, and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to you?' And in reply the king will say to them, 'Truly I say to you, To the extent that you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'

I ain't from the south... but I got here as fast as I could!
