Anti-bullying speaker teaches students all about irony
By Doug Powers • April 28, 2012 03:56 PM
Recently, an anti-bullying video ran on the Cartoon Network. In the video, kids were instructed not to call others hurtful names like “stupid,” “fat” and “jerk.”
During a Q & A following a screening of the film, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was asked for her advice to kids being bullied, and that advice included telling the bully in question to “stop it, you’re being a jerk.” Huh? http://cnsnews.com/news/article/afte...ure-being-jerk
Along those same instructive lines but infused with much more anger we find this lesson that bashing anyone just because of their beliefs or who they are is considered bullying — unless those people are Christians who follow the “bulls*#t” in their bibles: http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes...ian-teens.html
Quote:
As many as 100 high school students walked out of a national journalism conference after an anti-bullying speaker began cursing, attacked the Bible and reportedly called those who refused to listen to his rant “pansy assed.”
The speaker was Dan Savage, founder of the “It Gets Better” project, an anti-bullying campaign that has reached more than 40 million viewers with contributors ranging from President Obama to Hollywood stars. Savage also writes a sex advice column called “Savage Love.”
Savage, and his husband, were also guests at the White House for President Obama’s 2011 LGBT Pride Month reception. He was also invited to a White House anti-bullying conference.
Savage was supposed to be delivering a speech about anti-bullying at the National High School Journalism Conference sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association. But it turned into an episode of Christian-bashing.
[...]
“You can tell the Bible guys in the hall they can come back now because I’m done beating up the Bible,” Savage said as other students hollered and cheered. “It’s funny as someone who is on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the Bible how pansy-assed people react when you push back.”
Play the video below to unleash more straw men than showed up for Victor Fleming’s casting call for the part of the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. Savage also somehow managed to get in a shot at Callista Gingrich. Feel the love (language warning): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao0k9...layer_embedded
Did you feel the negative energy that can lead to bullying magically evaporate during that speech? Me neither.

These are BHO’s people…does BHO believe as his czar believes? Who thought inviting this guy to a NSPA conference for high school students was a good idea?
..
Just read this on Drudge – absolutely disgusting! And people say Christians aren’t under attack in this country! I don’t care if somebody’s gay, but why do they need to need to go out of their way to retaliate against Christianity? Do they feel some inner guilt they’re fighting against? Why can’t they just “Co-exist” like their bumper-sticker says? (They’re willing to Co-exist with anybody as long as they’re not Christian, Conservative, or Republican, or wealthy.)
This guy *was* the bully in the room. I’m glad some kids had the guts to leave.
..
I wonder how come he didn’t say anything about those pansy muslims? I think their stance on homosexuality is far more intolerant than Christianity. Maybe he’s the real pansy. Might be a fatah against him!
..
I went to school with this reprobate.Did not remember him one bit. He appears to be part of the very small but annoying part of the Gay community that cannot, in any way, allow ANYONE to not fully agree, support and condone and promote their lifestyle. Tolerance for me but not for thee.
i have read his story and he is a very angry person and does not represent the greater majority of the gay community. I am a born-again Christian and most of the experiences I have had with gay people is as long as you treat them with civility, they will in kind and are OK to “agree to disagree”
..
He was cursing and insulting people who were in a position of being unable to fight back. That’s bullying.
Gay-rights activist rips Bible, mocks teens fleeing room

Dan Savage knows how to work a room. He also knows how to clear one out. The founder of the "It Gets Better" project did both during a recent speech at a high school journalism convention in Seattle. He called the Bible pro-slavery and argued that if the Bible got something like slavery wrong then anti-gay protestors shouldn't use the book as a defense for their views. As you can see in this video, some students applauded while others walked out. Savage called those fleeing the room "pansy ass" and later apologized if he "hurt anyone's feelings."

This is pathetic. Journalism convention? Sounds like personal agenda ........
