Husband has an abscess. It started today and is killing him. I know he needs infection meds, but I can't get in touch with the dentist or doctor until Monday. I know there are alot of old remedies out there I just don't know of any. If anyone does please lmk. Thank you so much.
Oh. He has been washing his mouth out all day with hydrogen peroxide.

Cloves help with a tootache but I don't know about an abscessed tooth. He can either just put a whole clove inbetween his gums and cheek near the sore tooth or rub clove oil on it. I don't know if that's okay to do with an abscess but for a regular toothache it's okay. Sorry he's in such pain. :(
The only thing I know of is an antibiotic. Maybe go to the ER?
I would really go to the ER they can start him on penicilin dont mess with an absessed tooth :(
Yeah, the infection can get into his bloodstream. Definitely don't wait. For pain with my abcessed tooth, I was told to take 2 ibuprofen with 2 tylenol and to down them with fruit juice (berry, not OJ). Amazingly enough, it worked wonderfully! Good luck.
Thanks so much for the advice. He says he thinks he can wait until monday for the antibiotics. He has taken 2 excedrin and it has helped with the pain. We shall see, I guess. He don't won't to go to the ER or even the dentist. He is HARD HEADED. Thanks again.
STOP the peroxide! Mild dilution of salt water at the most. The peroxide can make it worse. Explain to him that one abcess tooth can take the surrounding ones too. Not to mention what has to be done if the abcess invades the bones.
Rub the palm of your hand with ice to relieve tooth ache pain & take a tea bag steeped in hot water as hot as is comfortable and place directly on abcessed tooth, the teabag will help draw out the pus
take a paper towel put vinegar on it and put it on there. it draws out the puss. this works on a sun burn to. i have done this before it works for both.
Can you ask family or neighbors if they have any leftover antibiotics lying around? I got a bad toothache over a 3 day wknd and borrowed antibiotics and pain meds...(I know....but when you feel like your face is going to explode, you'll do anything). No extremely hot or cold drinks or food either...that will set off the pain. Hydrogen peroxide not only gets rid of the infected tissue....it eats away at the good, healthy tissues...so don't use that anymore. Good luck, nothing's worse than a toothache....get to the dentist Monday morning if you can.
Get a mouthful of childrens ibuprophen(the liquid kind) and hold it over the tooth as long as he can, then swallow. That has worked for me. Hope he feels better
I learned the clove oil trick from my own dentist. It tastes nasty but it does do the trick of relieving pain. The dentist said that it will permantly kill the nerve. Very inexpensive and you can get it over the counter at most any pharmacy. Good Luck!! :(Quote:

I used to make a paste out of bc powder and put it on it. It worked pretty well. Also, nyquil will knock you out quick so you can sleep it off (when you have no pain pills).

You need to tell your husband an abscessed tooth is nothing to take lightly. It will never get better, only worse. The infection doesn't go away, it will spread outward from the root into the bone supporting the tooth & destroys tissue. Left untreated over time will also cause other health problems. I know a lot of men are hard headed and it's a pain to try and make them go to the dentist or doc. It would be in his benefit to go get it over with.
Do not place aspirin directly over the tooth or gums because it increases irritation.
The swelling has gone down and he went to work last night. He will be going to the dentist today. His gums have been receding for years, to the point where almost all of his teeth are loose. I think he intends to try and get them all pulled sooner or later(maybe 1 at a time) so that he can just get dentures and not worry about the toothaches any longer. I had 2 abcesses removed ion the back of my mouth.I'm diabetic so my gums are bad.The first one I went to the Er,my sugar was up to over 800,they put me on saline IV and lortabs and morphine and kept me for 4 days.The next one I had,I would drink cold water then take a sip of hot tea.I had them both during winter.The cold is horrid.Good luck,I hope he feels better!
