My daughter's pet just died.
My younger daughter has a pet rat she named Lara. We got her through a friend who does "rodent rescue" services around our area.
She was already an adult when we got her, and she's actually lived a lot longer than we expected. She suddenly became very weak last night, and today she wouldn't eat or drink. Been struggling to breathe most of the afternoon. DD spent the day out of town with her dad, and I'd called him and told him Lara wasn't doing too well.
Lara was alive when DD got home, but she was still devastated to see her in that condition. DBF was being an insensitive clod, and complained about her crying. OH WELL!!
I finally got DD to go to bed about 15 minutes ago, and Lara passed on after just after she went to sleep.
Good news: Lara's finally at peace, and I'm not going to be up all night trying to console my daughter.
Bad news: I'm going to have a hard time trying to get DD calmed down enough to go to school in the morning once she wakes up and finds out her "baby" is gone. Definitely not looking forward to this one. She goes into total meltdown when she loses a pet. (Just like her mom!)
