    The Thanksgiving and Christmas Thread

While at the 4th of July party my husbands' nephew is already giving instructions for this year's Thanksgiving meal, making sure we all keep the date open to head to his house. I haven't brought this up to my sisters yet because last year they said it was too early and with the virus we didn't get together anyway. Anyone else already planning for the Holidays?

Not planning yet, but Yes I have been thinking about it. We missed having any Thanksgiving or Christmas last year, so I know I am planning on cooking a turkey.

We had family dinners last year for both holidays, despite what restrictions were in place. We'll do it again this year too.

I usually start shopping for Christmas right about now. Lots of summer toys on sale that I get for my great-nephews. (And now I have another one to add to the list!)

It's just the two of us, so we'll do what we usually do - have a lot of food to put away in the freezer for future meals, LOL. I do have some things as tentative Christmas gifts, but sometimes I just go ahead and send stuff whenever.

We are also just the two of us. It has been for many years. We have no kids and the rest of the family is very scattered. The two of us don't even exchange gifts anymore! During the year we buy whatever we want and then say "ho, ho, ho" to each other. We like to cruise (and have missed that during the pandemic) so that's our big anniversary/holiday gift to each other (Nov is our anniversary). We tend to stick to traditional meals -- leftovers in the freezer are normal here also. So not much to really think about for us.

My husband and I exchange a few gifts and I give a small gift to one friend, but that's it for presents. I don't usually start shopping for Christmas until late fall. I cook Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for just the two of us.

The meals we had around the holidays with just the 2 of us were nice and I cherish them as we grieved for the loss of my FIL, but I didn't realize how much I missed getting together until the 4th. We only knew the family but there were a lot of people we met and had a wonderful time. I mentioned to my husband from now on when someone says we are having a few people over wana come, yes it going to be the first thing out of my mouth. This last year has been tough, first my mom, a year later his dad, then covid and I personally felt so alone. Spent too much time in front of the TV stuck at home, only going to the store.

I've been chatting with one sister (in California) and she's thinking about taking a trip to Texas in September. I may go there to meet up with her, and visit family (the other sister in Dallas, and brother and family in San Antonio) as well as friends. I'll be done working with the teen musical by then, and won't have to worry about my seasonal job, which starts later in the fall. It would be fun to travel again.

Staying home this year, we do not travel anywhere anyway. All the family is here in California. We would go out to the casino to eat dinner, but now they have closed the buffet and we do not know when it will open, so I am just going to cook a turkey this year.

Before I had my seasonal job, I would fly down to Texas to visit friends and family (including my ex, who lets me borrow a car and will pick me up at the airport). But now December travel is out because the candy shop is busy for Christmas (crazy last year!) - and Bill would prefer me not to travel during winter months when weather/snow/ice can be unpredictable. So my window of time to travel is after Mother's Day and before Thanksgiving.

How did everyone's holiday go? We were all set to go to DH nephews and he got sick, not C but sick as a dog, miss out on our B-Days, 25th Anniversary, and Thanksgiving, he is finally feeling better and I hope to go see some Christmas lights out of town, there are several large displays.
