In Ohio, we just got the notice for 'stay in place' effective Monday at 11:59 p.m. I'll work Monday at the candy shop (a local small business), but it looks like we may have to close down through April 6. Easter candy sales could go crazy when we reopen.

Day 5 of trying to buy some TP!!

    I'm off to Target........AGAIN.

I was there yesterday, (right as doors opened), as well as 4 other stores, and none of them had any.

I mean really, how much toilet paper does any one household need????

People who hoard are making so much more difficult for everyone else.

Slightly funny story. I have a raincheck for a 24 roll of angel soft on sale for 4.99. I have 4 $1 off coupons. Great sale price.
I saw them unloading a case & I ask the manager if they will honor the raincheck after 30 days. He tells me no. I tell him that I don't NEED TP, but if they don't honor the raincheck that I will be forced to buy 4 packs. I then joke with him & say dont make me buy all your TP, because I WILL.

He laughed and told me to see him when we get back to normal

    LOL....
You could have bought the four packs for $3.99, and sold them for $10!
Why wouldn't he honor the rain check after 30 days?? I would think under the circumstances, that they would. (I've also never heard of a rain check with an exp. date on it).

I FINALLY got TP this morning! A 12 pack. (Just one!). Amazingly, I also got 3pack of Clorox Disenfecting Wipes, and Lysol laundry sanitizer.

Yes, it is ridiculous that people are hoarding it. Now the stores have put limits on darn near everything. I only NEEDED one pack.....I shouldn't have to drive between 2 states to find any!

So - the shop owners decided to stay open. Apparently they fall under a broad umbrella of 'food service' somehow. The manger is not thrilled, but she is sticking it out. Business Monday was slow. We did have one regular customer who phoned in an order over $100, and she picked up a few more things when she came to get her package. The biggest 'crowd' we had in the store that day was a mom with her kid, and another older woman. But obviously, the numbers are nothing like we had last year. I was tentatively scheduled for Thursday, but the manager said she probably wouldn't need me if things kept going this way. Many of our patrons are older, and would come in to buy candies for their adult children, and the grandchildren. I just don't see that happening this year.

The other seasonal worker hasn't been called in at all. She's about my age, but she has COPD and is a higher risk person. So if it does get busy, it will probably just be the two of us. The owners provided signs to post on the door and in the shop, advising customers to maintain six feet between them.

    Craziness...

Edited to add: I went to the shop this afternoon to drop off an extra canister of Clorox wipes (manager hasn't been able to find them in past days, and I had several at home that I picked up before the virus shopping). She was happy to get them since we were down to the last one yesterday. She said they hadn't broken $100 that day - so I spend about $15 to get her over that mark. And I have chocolate to get me through the end of the week, at least...

Does your store do online orders? I'd like to try and help them out if they do.

No - that's the sad thing. The owners are older, and don't understand the impact or value of having a web page (even a simple one!) nor social media. They have made a lot of inventory, but unless you are familiar with the shops, they are off the radar. They barely advertise, relying on generations of customers - but many are older and not likely to come out. We've had a few phone orders, but not anything near the volume we would be doing this close to Easter.

I know this would be last minute, but would she consider putting something on Ebay or craigslist? This may help boost her sales

These owners are really old-school types, and don't get it. I don't think they know about Craigslist. Some of the customers have called to see if the store is open. This morning we had several come in wearing masks or bandannas as masks, and gloves. One lady took precautions by sitting in her car until she saw the people clear out. It was an interesting day. I'm concerned how it will be during the week before Easter, with just two of us working. I'm beginning to think that the owners might be thinking about getting out of the business soon.
