    What would you do?

Asking a question for my sister..
My nephew, (13 yo) in PE class at school was playing basketball, him and another boy jumped up same time and my nephew's hand caught boys hoodie pocket and it ripped. He felt so bad he said he would pay for it. He told his mom, she asked him to get boys mom's number so she could text. She apologized and offered to pay, the lady wrote back give$ to her son. She inquired again how much. She was told$60..( nothing else, like thanks for contacting me, don't worry about it, etc)
Do you think nephew and family had to pay.?
My sister did pay but asked for hoodie in return. At first they said no, so she wasn't going to pay. Boy brought hoodie to school today, so nephew paid.
    What would you have done?

I sure as heck wouldn't pay $60 for ripping a pocket of a hoodie! Was it ripped beyond repair? I would have asked to see it first, and possibly sew it myself.

People are just rude anymore. They don't know how to say 'thank you' anymore.

Is she going to keep the hoodie, or did she just want it to see how bad it was?
