My sump pump is running every 20 seconds

Wow with all the rain last night, my sump pump is going off like crazy and water filled my basement window wells and soaked my carpet. This has to be the wettest winter on record and rolling into the wettest spring. We have flooding, standing water and what a mess it's become. I don't want to pray for the rain to stop because we just came out of a several year drought. So I'm crossing my fingers the power doesn't' go out.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a window well cover. They cost around $10-15. That will help keep water from coming in. I'd have wet basement walls and ruined washer and dryer, if I didn't have one.

Don't even get me started on sump pumps!! Last summer, I'm pretty sure mine ran for 3 solid months!!

We tried to get covers once and they didn't come in our size, our windows are so old, the window wells are now an odd shape. We talked to a guy a couple years ago who said we could have them specially made and we figured we would just put in new wells even if they where bigger than the ones we have, well we never got around to it. We replaced one with one we had in the garage because the one in the ground rusted so bad. Fast forward to this morning, the rain came down so hard and it was so loud I couldn't hear, I just closed my eyes and said OH NO but then it stopped and went back to "regular" rain. I rolled over and my clock was flashing and I jumped out of bed ran to the basement and it must have only been off for a min because there is a little water around the pit and the pump was running again. We are still running every 10 to 15 seconds. Makes me wish we had purchased one with a battery back up but I doubt it would last long for as often as it's running. The rain should stop around noon today, than 50% for a few hours, and go down from there, but it didn't rain much yesterday and the pump just ran and ran. I can safely say our drought is over. Our grass is beautiful. LOL

It rained all of April here and so far every day this month. We haven't been able to mow AT ALL and our pond is over the banks. We had to take the over flow off to let it drain into the creek on the back of our property.

The parts of Missouri I've been in are beautiful, once you leave St. Louis there are hills we don't have in IL. I've been to Branson once and didn't want to leave we stayed in Shell Knob where my Aunt and Uncle lived. But that was in the early 90's. Time goes by so fast, I've been planning to go back for years. Kansas City was very cool, been there once. As you can tell we don't go anywhere. LOL
