    Scared to Death

I had an appointment with my gyno yesterday to schedule a procedure to hopefully help my heavy periods. As if that weren't enough to be nervous about, before my appointment, I found a small lump in my upper chest, up toward my collarbone area. She wrote me an order for a diagnostic mammogram and I scheduled it today. I wasn't able to get in till Sept. 2. That seems so far away, giving me lots of worry time. I could use all the prayers or positive thoughts you can muster to help me get through this seemingly long time.

I am the biggest medical wuss there is... and I went through the exact same thing, only a little worse. I had no lumps or skin thickening, in fact, I assumed all was fine after my gyno and mammogram. But, the 'notice' came about a week later, they saw "something" in my left breast. They wanted to do a "spot mammography" and an ultra-sound of my breast... I was freaking out, but, my husband, being a nurse (cardiac though) suggested "it is probably nothing, just get the stuff done and ease your mind." Sooooooo, I did the spot mammography (OUCH!!) and the ultra-sound (it was nothing). A few days later, I get a call from the nurse at my Doctors office... they could not determine what it was, and wanted a biopsy... now, feel free to google a "breast biopsy"... NO WAY was that gonna happen!! And, considering I had 2 (yes TWO) spots they were concerned about, ummm, HELL NO!! So, I asked my Doc, can you put me out to do it?? Nope, can't be done that way, you MUST be awake... so, I was terrified, either way. I have never had kids, and, have, well, awesome big boobs... but that meant NOTHING to me or my hubby... So, I asked my Doc, ok, what if it IS cancer, what will happen? He said "well, we go in, use the same needle/hook tool we use to get the biopsy, and we do a "lumpectomy". You can google the hook/needle thing too... they HAVE to do that while you are awake, in a chair and upright with your boob in a mammogram machine. BUT, right after that, they CAN put you out to do the lumpectomy, and, if it is cancer, they have already removed it, and, just a little painless radiation is all you would need. Otherwise, you get to go over it all again, the hook and needle inserted to direct the doctor to the spots needing checked out etc. I told him NO, I will do this ONCE... put the hook/needle in (twice) and knock me out!! So, we set a date, like a week away... of course, I was a basket case!! I told my Doc that if I can't stand it (pain from hook/needle), I will get up and walk out... Now the reality...
They clamp your breast down in the mammogram machine, so you don't move... that also makes the needle not hurt, I swear, I felt it, but it didn't really 'hurt'... they had to do 2, and, as long as I didn't move until they got them directly into the middle of the tissue needing checked, it would be over, all but going to sleep... and I swear, it was not NEAR as bad as I thought. And it ended up.................... being nothing Calcium deposits. REALLY BIG YAY!!! My point, they HAVE to be SUPER CAREFUL with anything they see, to protect you and them... either way, I could have dealt with it. MY BEST TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Oh, and my breast has 2 incisions one under the boob that you can't see, and one between my top of my breast and chest, maybe an inch long each... and almost GONE already) Oh, This all happened in January 2014!!!

Hopefully it is nothing, it doesn't sound like it is in the actual breast if it is up by you collar bone.
Is it an actual lump or just swelling in the area.
My daughter was in a car accident a few years ago, and after about a year or so she noticed one side of her chest was swollen some. They did a mammogram and a ultra sound and nothing showed up. Well she was having a different problem at the same time and the docs couldn't find the cause for that either after many tests. So she went to the chiropractor that has a very good reputation in the area. He found what her one problem was right off the bat and she asked about her chest and knew what that was also. From the accident it had moved things around in her chest and a easy way to put it they had to push things back in place. They had to do it several times but now she is ok.

I had found a lump in my breast several years ago, they did a ultra sound and went and got the doc. He said there was actually 2 lumps one they could tell was ok the other they weren't sure about. I had to have surgery to have them removed. They both turned out to be nothing and now they are gone. It was day surgery and they cut right along the Areola and you can barely see they did anything.

Please let us know what you find out.
