Does anyone own a German Shepard??

I've been thinking a lot lately of getting another dog. I've gone back and forth between many breeds trying to decide.

Lately, I've been having some problems with my new neighbors, and I'm starting to feel as though I should have a dog to protect me. I don't want this reason to be my only deciding factor though. I don't want to make the wrong decision because of some guy.

If anyone has one, can you tell me what they're like? I want a fun dog, as well as a protector. I plan on getting a puppy, and training it, (properly), as it grows.

Any info one one would be appreciated.

Instead of a German Shepherd look at a Belgian Malinois they don't have the hip issues that GS's have. Most police depts are now using the Belgians instead of the German Shepherds for that reason.

Do you have one of those dogs too?

I have heard about hip problems with GS's before. A former friend of mine had one and often mentioned it, and one of the sites I was reading mentioned it too. The Belgian Malinois looks like a nice dog too.

Do either of you know any other websites where I can find dogs close to me? I've already checked out dogsnow.com and petfinders.com. Neither site has dogs near me. (Pa.)

Any other info you can give me would be appreciated!

Had a GS once, normal dog, you talk to it, feed it, brush it, bath it (didn't care for that till in the tub), take it on strolls, play, and if you have a peeping tom, just casually open the door, say his name and off he goes to protect you. Could be inbreed for them to protect you.

Check on AKC.org for breeders in your area. I haven't had a B.M. but have friends that have them and everyone thinks they are German Shepherds they look that much alike. Rotts are very good dogs too and very protective but also can be a very big lap dog.

I found this site but don't know anything about it. http://www.puppyfind.com/
I did see you can search by state on it.

We have Rottweiler puppies available right now. They will be ready to go next Wednesday. They are protective, but also very loving to their family, and yes, they can be a great big lap dog! If you think you might be interested, look on my website that I posted above and you can find all of our contact info. We live in TN but can ship them anywhere.

We have an ad on puppyfind.com

My advice would be to call the breeder and have a nice long talk with them. Visit the facility if at all possible. We have maybe one litter every other year. There are some who run puppy mills and you wouldn't want a dog from there. We keep our puppies inside in a raised cage, so they are never in their own pee or poop because it falls through the grates onto pans in the floor. If the weather is nice, I keep them outside in the grass in an exercise pen. I have seen places where the puppies are never let out, never socialized. Just be careful where you get your dog.

And if you don't care if you know the pedigree or if it's full-blooded, the pound is an excellent place to find a good dog needing a loving family.
