Do you make sacrafices for Lent ?

Today is Ash Wednesday, which begins first day of Lent, the celebration of the 46 days before Easter. Many Christians and non-Christians alike begin the Lent season by giving up a particular luxury or vice they have.

According to Care2.com, here are the ten most popular things people give up for Lent. These vices range from typical to technologically-minded.
    1. Alcohol
    2. Chocolcates and Sweets
    3. Cursing
    4. Social Media (Twitter/Facebook)
    5. Television
    6. Junk Food
    7. Soft Drinks
    8. Smoking
    9. Texting
    10. Gossiping

We’d like to know what you are giving up for Lent.

This is a project I am working on with the kids for PSR - TY

I used too but nope not this year. I would do it to break myself off of a bad habit, one year it was chocolate the following was to give up saying "ya know". Each offense cost me a quarter which I would then donate.
I was going to give up saying "it is what it is" but with my Mom still living with me I would have to cash in my 401k for the naughty jar.

I am going to "give up" cussing ... some days I sound like a longshoreman ... 10 cent penalty for "mild" words ... 25 cent penalty for "GD" or "F' and three kids to count up the transgressions. All fines go into a box to be donated to local food bank.

I don't think I will but I may try to lessen my transgressions......and I abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent.

The word "fasnacht" is German, meaning "fast night," or the night before Ash Wednesday, when the Lenten fast begins.
Technically, fasnachts are just doughnuts, but because they're about to become a forbidden food, they are, therefore, extra delicious.
The recipes vary, but all contain sugar, butter, eggs, flour. They can be round with a hole, diamond-shaped or twisted.

I've also heard it called Fat Tuesday. The fasnachts I have had I didn't care for, they didn't taste like the ones you get in a donut shop.
Other people from PA may be able to enlighten more on them.

Ah ! We are in South Louisiana - we can tell you all about Carnival Season - lasts from Twelth Night till Fat Tuesday; Ash Wed kicks off 40 days of Lent.

Same here. Never heard of it until I moved to this particular area. (South central Pa). My family is all from western Pa, and I never heard of either while growing up.

I don't get the fascination with fasnacht's. It's like a big clump of lard! Ick.

LOL, I agree, I don't like them. I know around here they dip them in some kind of molasses and eat them.
I will take a donut from the donut shop before those things. YUCK
