Why did he give you scripts for both? I think Vicoden is stronger than Motrin.
    http://www.drugs.com/vicodin.html
Vicodin contains a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is in a group of drugs called opioid pain relievers. An opioid is sometimes called a narcotic.
Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of hydrocodone.
Vicodin is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.
Vicodin may impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how Vicodin will affect you. Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of liver damage while taking acetaminophen.

    http://www.drugs.com/imprints/motrin-600-5258.html

Motrin is used in the treatment of back pain; osteoarthritis; muscle pain; headache; pain (and more), and belongs to the drug class nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. Risk cannot be ruled out during pregnancy.
Motrin 600 mg is not subject to the Controlled Substances Act.

    more info on motrin.

Vicoden is for your pain, the motrin is for inflamation...if was to prescribe you
motrin 800...it would have been for added pain relief. Vicoden is a synthetic form
of codiene, which i'm allergic to, but i can take vicoden...problem? I'd rather cope
with the pain than chance getting addicted...i would have been, they have given me
on going presciptions for the last 2 years over my knee and back. I'm so glad i'm
stubborn! Not suggesting you to not take them, as you'll only be on it for a short period.
    Feel better soon.

P.S. EAT ONLY SOFT FOODS, LIKE SOUPS AND MAC N CHEESE, BUT DO NOT EAT ANYTHING
UNTILL THE NUMBNESS IS TOTALLY GONE! MY FRIEND SAID F___ IT I'M HUNGRY, AND DO
YOU KNOW SHE LITERALLY ATE A PORTION OF HER INSIDE CHEEK? BE CAREFUL.

    Smiles.

thanks - it is coming back to me that he did talk about inflammation when I got the scripts. My Dr. just called to check on me. how nice. never had that happen before. I have had several root canals over the years. This was a root canal on an old root canal. the crown and the post all just fell out of my mouth last nite walking in my house. no pain. Since it was a front tooth called 1st thing today and they said it was the worst infection he had seen.

My first one was horrid ages ago. The infection caused my whole mouth to swell up and excruciating pain. Back then my dad gave me his pain med as the dentist had gone out of town. They did not help. Had to then call my medical dr. and beg him to prescribe something stronger.

The Dr. always gives me Vicodin for root canals. It kills the pain but makes my mind go into overdrive. I can't fall asleep when I take it. I hope you are feeling better soon, Surfergal. Root canals are no fun.

worst infection? They usually shouldn't opererate til after a treatment of antibiotics..the infection can spread
into your blood stream. Now i'm getting worried, especially since he didn't give you a script for
    that even after.

Whoa, I can't believe he worked on your mouth while you have an infection.

Carrolin is correct about what each pill does but I wouldn't be too concerned over becoming addicted with just a few day's worth of pills. I forget what I get for pain but it's something different because I'm allergic to codiene.

You probably get Perkadan or perkaset (not spelled correctly but that is how it is pronounced).
