Water Softners.........
Does anyone have a water softener in their home?
How do you like it? I'm thinking of getting one but want some opinions.
Every winter, I swear the water company puts bleach in the water. It smells of chlorine some days when I first turn it on.
Does it help with dry skin at all? My skin is so dry in the winter, I just want to rip it off!!

Don't have one but be careful the companies that sell those systems have a reputation around here of ripping people off. Make sure to check them out very carefully before you even call one. Once you call one they all seem to come out of the walls. As for the dry skin - I can totally relate as mine gets so dry it actually hurts to walk some days. Lots of lotion.

I can't help you with a water softener but I can help out with dry skin, without having to use that gross hand cream lotions and such.
I get all my vitamins from Swanson vitamins online just go there and check out their prices for all your supplements. Anyhow, I order organic coconut oil pills. They're the Swanson EFA brand. They cost 2.99 a bottle for 60 caps. On the bottle it says to take 2 a day but I find 1 a day works fine. It takes about 2 weeks to start getting the benefits from them and a whole month until all of the effects to get within your system. It's so very rare that I need any kind of lotion in the winter months. I can't stand lotion but I always have Hemp Body Moisturizer for dry skin from Sally's. that stuff doesn't make you feel gross and oily.
Hope this helps.

I was going to get one at Sears and install it myself. (meaning my dad or plumber).
I don't trust the ones on tv either.

We have one and hubby installed himself. We bought at Menards as it would be alot cheaper than Sears. We had hard water with alot iron and it solved this.Very happy with it and have had a softener for about 20 years. We are on our second one. Any home improvement store would handle them.

We don't have Menards here, and I work for Sears so I get a discount.lol
I did have my water tested yesterday and it came back at a 10.1....very hard. So I will be getting one soon.
It looked easy enough for my dad to be able to install

I used to have really dry skin and then someone told my to get a water softener. We did and I love it. In fact when I moved into the house I am in now, the first thing I had installed was a water softener. I got mine from a local person but any reputable store would be good. I love mine and really could not survive without it. I used to wake up in the morning with scratch marks all over my arms and legs, doing it in my sleep. I itched until I bled. Not good..There are several ways you can have it hooked up tho. We have ours for both the hot and cold water, but I know of some that just hook it to the hot water because if you water grass you are using your soft water. Another thing is, you use way less shampoo, dish soap and laundry soap. If you have a HE wash machine, you use way less detergent than what you would normally use. I would recommend one for anyone with winter dry skin and even year around dry skin.

This has me thinking about getting one. Between my coconut oil pills & a water softener I would be as smooth as a baby's behind!
