Purchasing Savings Bonds
Does anyone know what website I can go to to purchase savings bonds? My bank gave me www.IRS.Gov and I have spent over an hour on site and only thing I can find is how to purchase using your tax refund. They talked like it would be so easy and much better to do it this way instead of selling at the banks. All I can say is I think they will sell less as it is too much trouble to purchase if you can even find how.Really wanted to keep getting them for my grandsons for Christmas so when they are older can use to go to college. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

As of January 1, 2012, paper savings bonds are no longer sold at financial institutions. This action supports Treasury’s goal to increase the number of electronic transactions with citizens and businesses.

Where to Buy
It's easier to buy electronic EE Bonds than ever before. You can purchase them through:
TreasuryDirect
This is the easiest, fastest way to buy Series EE bonds. The bonds are issued directly to you in your TreasuryDirect account. No paper bonds are issued. You have access to your account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
When you buy savings bonds in TreasuryDirect, you must hold them in your TreasuryDirect account for at least five business days before you can transfer them to other accounts. The five-day hold protects Treasury against loss by ensuring the ACH debit has been successfully completed before the funds can be moved.
TreasuryDirect Payroll Savings
You can set up an automatic purchase schedule for as little as $25. You can establish a Payroll Savings Plan – see Learn More about the Payroll Savings Plan for more information.

So it cost $25,00 to open an account to do this? Not sure if I want to deal with all of this anymore.Like I said I think less bonds will be issued because of this.I know alot of people older than me that buy them for grandkids, great grandkids and they are stopping for this reason...just saying.

I totally agree. I can't believe they did away with paper bonds. The new process seems like too much of a hassle to deal with. When my mom was alive she got bonds for my kids too. I know I won't be getting them for my grandkids when I have some after reading this.

Perhaps just open a seperate savings account at your bank, in their name??
It's been awhile since I cashed mine in....I don't even know what the interest rates are like on them anymore.

I don't like all these things going "paperless"...... I'm a bean counter and I like paper trails...... electronic things get wiped out too easily.... :

Yeah, I was buying for my granddaughters and stopped because I couldn't get paper bonds anymore. And I so enjoyed doing so! I don't do any financial stuff online. I'm old-fashioned like that.
