    Sitting here open-mouthed thinking "OMG!"

My grandma just passed away a little over a week ago. After the funeral her 3 children and 3 of her grandchildren (myself included) went to her house to disperse the flowers and other memorials people had sent. Before my sister and I got there my cousin's 4-year-old daughter said something that left the room dead quiet. They walked into the house and the 4 year old said, "My mom said--" and her mom said, "Shhh!" She continued on, "But my mom said--" and was told, "Ali, be quiet!" "BUT MY MOM SAID THAT GRANDMA DYING WAS BITTERSWEET CAUSE NOW WE CAN GET A BIG HOUSE!!" Tell me a 4-year-old would come up with that on her own! She HAD to have heard that from my cousin. Sure, my grandparents had a little bit of money, but #1, who thinks that way and #2, I don't know for sure, but I'd almost put money on the fact that they left the money to their 3 kids, not the grandkids. Given the choice, I'd take my grandparents back in a split second over ANY amount of money. But my cousin is just like her parents. My aunt (the one whose mother just passed away) built a huge, expensive house a few years ago...much bigger than what is needed for 2 people. I do have to say, thought, that they did save for years to build it and didn't have to take out a loan for the whole thing. But, this same cousin, a couple years ago, told me that her parents (my aunt & uncle) were "waiting for grandpa and grandma to die so they can sell their house, buy an RV and travel the country." What kind of people am I related to??!!

I always told my grandmother to spend my inheritance. She didn't and her daughters (not my mom & 1 aunt) but the others were all over it. Disgrace.

I'm sorry for the loss of your Grandmother. Unfortunately lots of people are like that. I remember back in the late 60's early 70's, my brother in laws mother died. Her kids were fighting over the flowers and plants from the funeral. Hugs

Sorry to hear about your grandma.

Some people just don't think before they speak.

You're probably right about the money being left to the kids though........most lawyers (if Will is done through them) advise that the money go to the children, and not grandchildren.

Just ignore her/them, and remember the times you spent with your grandma.

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother passing. You obviously are related to my family. When my step-Grandmother passed away her Grandkids had a mortal fit when they read her will and she left me (not blood related) a bunch of stuff. What none of them realized was that I had given those things to her over the years and she felt they should go back to me. We almost ended up in court over her estate until I finally told them why she gave me those things. I had one cousin that thought I should give the stuff to HER instead of keeping the items. None of them took into consideration that she was my only Grandmother in Florida and I was very close to her.

Sorry for your loss. They must be related to mu brother who took all my Moms cash as she was dying. Pieces of crap. But these are also the same people who will be surprised when it happens or is said about them. The saddest part of all this, the lessons they are teaching a 4 year old. Stuff and money can never replace or be as valuable as people.

Sorry about you Grandmother!!!! I think I would have flipped out. I had an instance happen at the hospital after my Mom died , they lost her false teeth and I was so stressed out already that if it wasn't for my sister's son I would have been in jail for the funeral. I commend you on your self control. A child repeats what they hear. As hard as it is to talk about dying it is a fact of life and this right here is why family need to talk about things and help make wills. I honestly hope they dont get a penny from your Grandmother! They should be ashamed of themselves! HUGS TO YOU!!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Funerals do NOT bring out the best in some people. Both of my grandmothers passed. Both had family members that went in and took things before the services were even conducted and then refused to return the items - even when they were "willed" to other family members. My cousins went in to "clean" grans house before some of us had even heard of her passing - removed the antiques and "valuables" and put the rest by the road. Sadly - the items I would have treasured were considered "junk" and were tossed out - childrens' storybooks and old aluminum measuring scoops that she used to teach me to cook. Sad to say - some people have their values in the wrong places. Treausre your memories - they are truly priceless.

When my husbands father died it split up our family too. I really hate people.

I am sorry for your loss.
