Temporary Internet Service for a week or two while away from home?
I am a bit technically challenged (okay I am old). Does anyone know if there is a way to get temporary internet relatively cheap for 2 weeks when away from home?
I have to go out of state for 9 -12 days next month to take mom to some doctor appt's. She does not have internet service, but she does have basic cable. I do not have a smart phone. (My basic Verizen clamshell phone does not even have texting, ha ha, but it is free to me from my employer, and I am still on a strict budget after being out of work for 4 years.)
I have to take time off work without pay, and pay for the flight and car rental, which mom will help me with hopefully. I have a 2nd job blog that needs daily maintenance. Not that it pays that well, but every bit helps. I started it while I was unemployed after benefits ran out and am hoping it will be a retirement supplement in a few years LOL if I can ever retire.
An option I am looking at will be to find a free dial up service in her area and plug my 6yr old laptop into moms home land line phone lines late at night. I did this while I was unemployed after my modem died. (LOL that was a few months after my old pc died while I was unemployed -I used the pc's at the local library a lot then) I remember there were some pc settings I had trouble finding how to change to get on dial up, but my local library offered the free dial up service to residents and was able to talk me thru them.

You could probably get AOL for one month relatively cheap. I am guessing you don't have a wifi card in your laptop otherwise you could use wifi from a local coffee type shop.

Majority of hospitals, clinics have free WiFi

Y'all she needs dial up service not wifi. The only one I could think of would be AOL but you could call your Mom's phone carrier and ask them (yeah you have to lie and say you are her) ask if they have dial up available.

Okay...i have a cricket device that you hook up to your usb port...i can take it anywhere and
plug it into any laptop or pc...i think i paid around $30 for it...then you pay for the temporary
service when ever you need it...it can be $10, $15, $30 or $50 for a whole month. I think this is
what you need...you don't even need a land line, or cellphone or wifi. Just the usb stick, as i call
it.
Hope you and your mom are doin' better, as this should help...i'm 'puter illiterate too...my son
jesse got me back in touch with everyone here a few years back...saved my sanity, or i may
be driving yall with me! Lmbo!
Smiles.

But don't you need a dial-up service? I have no phone capabilities, cricket provides me
with a # and can text and e-mail on it too...i'll ask jesse and see if he couldn't hook me up
this way...will save me $15 a month!...hey to me that's a steak dinner w/ cab fair...do i mind
no company...shoot, i'm invited into the kitchens, and to other peoples tables...i guess i'm
so happy to get out that i glow happiness!...lol! Or they pity me...which ever, i'm smiling
and they too feel happy..probably after i leave! Lmbo! No, i can't shut up! Ha!
Smiles to you my friend!
