    iron in my water

I live in the country and have a well, we have a terrible iron problem here in this county. I buy all of the products for cleaning I know works for what, laundry and sinks, showers.
My problem now is my hair, I have lived in a few places here in this town and have never had a problem like this until this house. My hair is a bright orange color on the ends now. Anyone have this problem? How do I fix it? I took a few strands of my hair and dunked them in iron out and can't believe the chenge. But I dont think I want to put that on my head. I want to but know it isn't a good idea anyway. Any ideas? Thanks!!!! I have looked it up on here and tried the lemonade, didn't work.... rust remover treatment, didn't work either.

From the site Mrs. Pepperpot posted this one is the only one that doesn't require you to purchase really expensive stuff.

Here is a at home solution. You need to do it just every once in awhile to control the mineral deposits from the water. 1T. Baking Soda to 1 Cup warm water. In the shower, wet your hair, then pour this solution over your entire head. rub it in like you would a shampoo for about 1 minute, paying attention to your ends where most of the deposit is. Rinse and shampoo as normal. I have well water and do this about twice a month. It works well, but you will need to condition afterwards as it leaves the hair really well stripped. Good luck.

I mean this in nicest way, but you seem to know a little something about nearly everything. Me, on the other, I know a little something about a little bit.....just enough to get me from A to B. LOL!!!

Best solution to the whole problem is to have a water softener put on your water system. This will take care of the problem for everything as this is hard on appliances and things also. You will notice over time without one yoor clothes will get a dull ditry looked even after washing them.We have the same problem and when 1st water softener went bad and was not working could sure tell the differences.

Thank you for your tips. I do have a water softener, it doesn't work to get it all out. I solved the problem quickly and cheap... I mixed iron out with warm water and stripped all of the color out of my hair. I bought clarifying shampoo and am going to have to use it from now on every time I shampoo. Took a couple of days of deep conditioning but my hair looks good now, all of my gray is back. I had forgot about that part of it. I am going to try the baking soda trick if I ever need to do this again.

Aw, grey hair ain't so bad! I let myself go to grey when I realized the color I had been using was more aging than the grey! And I also got a flattering haircut!

Our water report came out about a month ago. We read it and discovered in small print no less, that if you take certain meds notify your doctor of the high potassium levels as it interferes with medications. We add a reverse osmosis system and by bottled water. Guys what, hubby has been feeling so much better. Read those reports.

Update!!!!!!! Obviously when I tried lemon it wasn't the right kind. This is what I did last week. I mixed 7 packets of lemon kool aid with conditioner and put it on my hair, left it on for 15-20 minutes and rinsed it out. Unbelievable change! I didn't know there was that much rust in my hair. My hair is a light strawberry blond now and I haven't seen this color in years! All of my gray is back. And it is so soft too. I washed it out afterwards, but I dont even think you would have too.
