How much do you pay for propane?

    Hi Everybody,

I know I asked this before but would those that buy propane to heat their home let me know how much it coasts you? My husband and I stopped in Amerigas and asked what the current price is and I almost dropped to the floor. They told me that if we prepay it would be $3.59 a gallon, otherwise it's $4.14 a gallon. I remember that in 2002 it was $0.90 a gallon. How do they expext us to be able to afford that price!!??!! I want to write my governor and if I have the price people pay in other states it might help. Thanks

Don't use propane. We use natural gas here. But, our family uses it in N. Carolina and they have also been complaining about the price. I don't know what they pay though.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

Well hold on to your chair. I just got my tank filled last week and it was about $ 5.25 a gallon. It has been all over the place lately. Thankfully I only use it for my dryer and water heater. As far as heating your home please remember that the heating units cost more for propane and natural gas than electrical. However, it should be cheaper to heat your home with propane or natural gas than electric. I just had my A/C changed and I have a heat pump since they work great in Florida for heat and are pretty economical and I don't use my heat that much except for this past year. You would need to compare the price of the unit along with the amount of fuel/electricity you expect to use to really get a good comparison. I know the A/C contractor I work for would tell you that the gas/propane units are more economical but that was before propane and natural gas like gasoline started going crazy the past year.

This past winter it was around 2.79/gallon. If you live out in the country it's pretty much the only choice of propane or electric. Before my propane furnace broke, I LOVED it, even though it was much more expensive to buy propane rather than paying electric during the winter, I liked it more because it was a hot heat, and warmed your house nice and toasty.
Now I only have it for my cooking stove, so I don't have to buy propane maybe fill it up every 3rd year. And sometimes when the electric goes out during the winter I light the burners on the stove to heat the house, I can't do that with my oven and open the oven door anymore (just the top burners) since I bought a new propane stove (electric ignited). But if the electric goes out, I can still cook and be warm.
I use to have a propane water tank, untill the pilot went out and I went to re-light it and it about took my eyebrows off LMAO, that was some years ago. I wish though sometimes I would still have a propane hot water tank still though for when and if the electric goes out during the winter I can also have hot water.

Well shut my mouth LOL, I just called our propane place and it's $2.30/gallon for a 150 gallons, and they match the price if I find it cheaper. I am in Oklahoma

Amerigas said they would match the price if I find a lower price at a company around here. There is one called Sun Propane so I will call there. I feel wierd calling but I am curious. Thanks for your replys.

Don't feel funny calling around to check prices. When the gas prices started going up I got my budget plan bill for oil. We use oil to heat the house. My budget plan more than doubled. They wanted me to pay 700 and something a month for a monthly budget payment. Now that is way more than more mortgage payment.
I called another company and asked them what they were charging compared to the other company etc. They were cheaper and so was my budget plan payment. I think it came to right around 400 a month. When the prices starting coming down they changed my budget plan payment to something cheaper yet.
This year it went from 185.00 to 235.00 a month. So it pays to call around and compare prices.
