My mother had the sherriff come out and check on us after we moved to another state. She was upset because we hadn't checked in for a couple of days. I guess she didn't understand that moving a thousand miles with two little kids, a husband who was deploying to Korea, and a local phone company who decided not to install our phone for over a week was a good enough reason. Sometimes you just don't have time to do everything in a day. The deputy felt my pain. lol

As an example. I just put in "Main Street, Houston, Tx" and you can see it brings up people and businesses...and you can get their phone numbers if they are listed.

I wouldn't "abuse" this with the neighbors, but if it were important but not an "emergency" that you would need to call the sheriff.....you may find a nice neighbor willing to knock on her daughter and just relay a message. (Although I would threaten my daughter to do it again and very often..as she is not giving you much of a choice.. )

Would you feel guilty if you told her someone had a stroke and then that person really ended up having one?

For some odd reason - I get the feeling the daughter doesn't want to associate with her mother. I cannot understand a healthy relationship would result in asking people "If making up a tall tale would be mean." To even dream of telling someone something horrible has happened to a loved one is border line insane. I'm sorry, I don't get it - your post has had me wondering why a person would be so damn evil.

Calling the police or harassing neighbors wasting their time on something petty is where the line should be drawn. Get a pen, paper, env & a stamp - it's a cheap way of communicating & you'll know whether or not the person wants to have anything to do with you or not.

Gosh, that seems a little harsh. I admit that I don't like the idea at all of crying wolf. But, to call her 'evil' seems a bit much. She is obviously frustrated in her attempts to get ahold of her daughter. Maybe there is more to the story than we know...and maybe there isn't. But, in my own frustration about situations, I've had my own horrid thoughts about how to get even...or get their attention...or whatever. I would never act out on those thoughts or wishes, but sometimes we just might think 'evil' things...but that doesn't really make us evil. It makes us human.

    JMHO.

ROFLMFAO - You're joking, right? I'm being harsh? Did you happen to read the op's original post or skip over it?

Don't worry about what people think. They don't do it very often.

I wouldn't do what you said either. I had a friend that thought he was having a heart attack and called his son. The son drove really fast to get there, got in a wreck and died. His father still blames himself even though he really thought he was having a heart attack. He keeps saying I shouldn't have called him if I hadn't he'd be alive. It was so sad because that was his only son and they were really close. Thats why his son was trying to get to him so fast.

I don't know why some people wont answer their phone or at least call back. I hope one day she doesn'r regret it.
