My son and his friend were room mates years ago and they had a kitten. When it was time to get "Kitty" fixed, my son's friend refused to take the cat because "Kitty" would forever hate him. They are like family members. These boys were far away from home for the first time and the kitty was just a little piece of home.

My son has been in the Army for nearly 16 years and that can be lonely. A few years ago he was living off base when he found a kitten, adopted him and named him Loudmouth. He was single then but since then he has married and they have a daughter who is 2 and Loudmouth is still an important (to my son) member of the household.
