I used to use coupons a lot and especially several years ago when Fred's Dollar Store had double coupons up to $1. I would have negative amounts on receipts. However, I would only buy stuff I knew wouldn't ruin. For example, about 7 years ago I got so much Pledge free with coupons that I finally had to buy some last year. I would buy toothpaste, shampoo, and things like that. I just don't have time to do it anymore. My mother said I was the reason Fred's stopped doubling coupons on Saturdays, lol. I never bought any coupons, either, I traded and people who knew I used them would save theirs for me instead of throwing them away. I don't think I could go dumpster diving!
I still use coupons and usually average a savings of about $20 a trip. It helps some.
I don't agree with buying up a lot of stuff that will ruin; that's just wasteful. If you are donating it to shelters, etc., that is one thing, but to just let 100 boxes of cereal sit is ridiculous.

Just a FYI about overages on coupons - you can now get the overage at Wal-Mart. Here is a link to their newest coupon policy. I have a copy in my coupon box so I can educate cashiers - thankfully I have very rarely had to pull it out. http://walmartstores.com/7655.aspx

I guess I am the odd one because I would love to have a stockpile like most of them. With the way prices are going up it would be nice to know I have plenty put aside for my family and friends if it came down to it. You learn to do the FIFO planning with it so things do not expire. I watched the show telling dh that this is going to be us someday lol maybe not having to add another room but enough for us

There are ways to prevent bugs in food.
I can understand stockpiling food in case hard times ever occur but people need comfort foods added to their stockpiles otherwise fatigue will set in. I do not understand stockpiling stuff that will not keep you alive in the event anything ever happen. Hundreds of toothbrushes, toothpaste, air fresheners, plugins, shampoo, conditioner, & all the other junk people collect more of than food is beyond insane. (IMHO anyway)

I wouldn't mind stockpiling some too but I know how much we eat and how long it would take to use stuff up before it goes bad and theres no way I'd ever be able to use what they have stockpiled. To me thats enough for four or five familes. But if they did a large stockpile then stopped till they use it I believe thats more practical than buying and buying to the extreme they do.

As for the big packages of paper towels and toilet paper that these people said they got for free, how did they do that? I never see sales that great on them to get them free with the .25, .50 or rarely $1.00 coupons I get in my area.
You know what sucks about that....if the coupon says $1 off the store gets paid the $1! Its bs that they don't give the overage, they are lining their own pockets!

I wonder if they'll do anything to her. If she'll have to pay it back. The store has some responsibility though. They're supposed to make sure you buy the right product. And the cashier was going to fast to do that.

I thought there was some kind of built in mechanism in the cash register would remember whether or not the right thing for the coupon was purchased or not.
Missing Mommy and Daddy.
Missing my Lady,Dingo, Mitzi and Spud.

Yeah, me too. the clerks at the stores in my town always make sure I have purchased an item before they redeem the coupon.
