What do you think about all the medicine doctors prescribe?
Do you take a lot of medicine? I have at least 15-20 different pills to take every day. They are so expensive too. Even with insurance paying 80% I am left with a chunk for myself to pay. Sometimes I want to eliminate some of them and I hold each one and think can I do without this one? I always wind up taking them all but I hate it.

Yes they prescribe way too many pills. You get one pill for a symptom or illness then you get another to help with the side effects of the first pill but then the second pill causes other side effects which means another medication. It goes on & on. My Mom is now on so many & I just think we need to cut back & see how she is feeling. Half the time she takes too many of one & not enough of another. Yes I have tried putting them in day organizers but she still messes it up.
Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

I dont take any prescribed meds at all. Of course, I am in excellent health and dont have any issues, knock on wood. I am the type of person that if I have a headache, I dont take anything for it unless it gets really bad (which is very rare). I try to relax, do yoga, meditate etc or just power thru it. I have a friend who is a walking pharmacy. She takes meds to offset the side effects from other meds etc etc etc. Its scary!!!!!

My husband takes 7 a day. He is 42.
One for diabetes in the morning, a different one for diabetes at night
2 cholesterol pills
a blood pressure pill
A blood thinner and
one for his knees.
He does not take anything to counteract a different pills side effects. We are working on diet and exercise to try to get certain areas low enough that he can stop taking a few of them.
But, without any of them now: he could not function. And I need him too much.
So hard, not to facepalm some people

I take 3 in the morning - Thyroid, kidney med & muscle relaxer and then take 3 more in the evening - another muscle relaxer, celebrix and one to slow my rapid heart rate down. Funny part is the one I take for kidneys is actually a blood pressure medication & I have LOW blood pressure so my Dr. has me on the lowest dose possible. Have to take it since taking insulin can damage your kidneys over time & my numbers fluctuated a couple of years ago.
I have tried not taking the celebrix & muscle relaxer and could stop them as long as I don't want to ever use my left arm again. I also take 2 shots of insulin daily (one in am & one before dinner) which I would GLADLY give up if I could - but when they tell you take 2 shots or die - well you kind of agree to the shots. Before anyone suggests ways to stop taking the insulin as my Dr. once said to me: You could eat celery, drink water and run a marathon and you would still have to take insulin - I am type 1 and have even tried pill forms and they don't work as well as good old shots.

When I first got sick I was 40 years old. I was taking 12 shots a month, and 26 pills. my parents got really worried about me taking so much medication as one of those was morphine. And what got me they took care of one problem but created alot more new ones so now at 51 I dont take as many and I feel alot better. The drugstore bill was just way to high even with insurance..Just the one set of shots which was the embrel was 1653.00 . Now I am going to dr with a new set of problems with my stomach and have to be scoped down the throat..sucks to be unhealthy

I take a fistful of meds in the morning and at bedtime...and my 'test results' are now doing great!!! I don't want to take a chance by stopping any one of th em right now. Yes...the meds are what are keeping me "healthy". It is expensive, but I have a flexible spending account which I contribute to each pay period so the cost of the meds seems negligible to me.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

SLance, ask your Dr about Mobick instead of Celebrex if you pay a lot for it. My insurance quit paying for it and I actually cried and even bought in Mexico for awhile because nothing else helped like Celebrex but Mobick is a 4.00 drug at Walmart and actually is working.
I take 3 pills in the morning and 3 at night too....but if I want to survive its what I do.
Be who you are and say what you feel, those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

My Ortho actually said there were other meds that I could take if my insurance didn't cover the celebrix but they have other problems like cause ulcers and such. I actually tried not taking the celebrix thinking Oh it isn't doing anything - yeah right 3 days later I was at CVS begging for my celebrix. The other nice part is it is only one pill per day and thankfully my insurance does cover it with a $ 45.00 copay which is unheard of for celebrix.

Its dangerous sometimes the medicine they give you. My husband found out the two tremor medicines and ambien were probably what caused him to build up carbon dioxide in his body. They said they were inhibiting his ability to get rid of the carbon dioxide. They took him off all them and so far so good.
