another thing left at the way side

    Window screens
I just noticed yesterday that we are about the only ones left on our street with window screens still on the windows. I guess with central air and heat, no one opens their windows anymore. I guess screens are just to keep critters out. Do you have screens. Ours are beginning to look old, maybe I will take them down completely. But leave them on the back of the house. I do sometimes open my bedroom window, it is upstairs and I feel safe opening it.

I don't have central air & I'm not sure I would want it. I love having my window screens & front door open to get fresh air. Of course I live up North so it doesn't get hot enough & long enough for central air.

I have central air, but I love having windows open first thing in the morning before it gets too hot.

I take my screens down in the winter though to keep from being damaged by ice/snow. Plus, it allows more sun to come in. (IMO the screen blocks sun a bit in winter..lol)

I have screens in all my windows. During the summer we pop out the ones we are putting the air conditioners in but once the air conditioners come out the screens go back in. I like opening the windows except when it is real hot out then I turn the air conditioners.

I have screens on the kitchen window, bathroom window, all bedroom windows (each bedroom has 3).
The livingroom does not have screens, but those windows are one solide pane of glass, and do not open anyway.
I do open my windows. I have central air: but I need the fresh stuff to blow in my house as often as possible!

I have screen doors, I open the main doors, and let the wind flow in as much as possible!

I have screens on all my windows and I do have central air. Of course I think the last time the windows were open was August 2004 for 4 days after hurricane Charlie. As soon as we got power the windows got shut and the air went back on. I do not live without my A/C - it is just too damn hot in Florida not to have it. Y'all can have your "fresh air" I prefer my filtered cooled air.

Sandy I can give you my natural air conditioning. It's blowing like crazy & going down over 20 degrees tonight. Not that it is going to be 20, it will be much colder.

I know how hot FL can be especially during the summer. If I lived there yes, then more than likely I would use the AC lots more. I'm not used to the humidity down that way anymore.

We have screens on all our windows... I'm hoping to get the ones that block out the sun eventually, but they're pricey and hubby is reluctant... but it would really help on the elec bill in the summer.

I open my windows and let the air come on in as much as I can, it cheers me up and doesn't make me feel cooped in. When it gets to hot, the air conditioner comes on, or to cold the heat. My bed is below a south window, and I love to feel the night air blow in on me during the spring and fall. I save on the electric bill whenever I can. I also start hanging up clothes outside when the weather is ready for it. Sometimes I'm wierd though, I'll turn on the airconditoner, then go sit on the porch and enjoy outside.
