Thread: yo yo s

What is an appropriate age for a child to be able to handle a yoyo responsibly? I remember in school we would have people come and put on yoyo demonstrations and then we would all yoyo for months. It seems I was in about the 5th grade. That would have made me about 10.
Is that about right or can a younger child handle them?
My 5 yr old grandson just wanted to swing it around and whine because it wouldn't come back up the string. He didn't spend anytime trying to learn to do it right. I know lots of yoyo tricks that I want to teach them. Yes Granny can still yoyo.
