I regret not buying a DVD player for my car in the first place, what to do..

Me and my friend both just changed to a new car and wanted to have a video system installed.

But after seeing this picture, I got the idea to get an iPad and use that as a car DVD player. One product, two uses… right? So while I use my iPad to entertain my passengers, my friend got himself a 7" Touch Screen 2 Din Car DVD Player at lightinthebox which is a whole bunch cheaper than my iPad.

Conclusion? I think I ended up spending too much for mine. The picture above and what I got in reality were two different things. Comparing with my friends DVD player, I feel that I should have given it a second thought in the beginning as well.

What’s more my friends device has GPS, a large hard drive, radio, it can be linked with the car computer, it can be used to find the nearest gas station if you’re running out of gas and more importantly: I don’t like people messing with my iPad the whole time! :P Also, the wireless remote controller and custom-made rack to fit the iPad in the seatback were not exactly cheap either. Anyway, I’m thinking about getting the same player as my friend now. Does anyone have an iPad installed in the back, or a DVD player for that matter?

we have two portible dvd players, cause i have a car and he has a van. when we go on trips, we usally take both of them, but we don't use them until we get to a truck or rest stop, to rest for a few hours. i do the same thing with my laptop. we never use these things while the other is driving. but we do use the gps, or he would get lost, cause he hates to ask for directions, is this only a guy thing. can you take or send your items back and get same things your friend has??? if, i liked them i would.

Why don't you just download the apps you need for the gps and you can also use www.maps.google.com for directions and locating restaurants and any other type of business all you do is put in the address and once it brings up the address - in the search bar type in what ever you are looking for and hit search and it will find them for you. Pretty simple and you don't have to return the ipad. Either way it is much cheaper to use those than the $ 3500.00 the dealers want to charge for a entertainment package.

3500 must be a jeep thing... my cousin had all that crap installed in both and her hubbies trucks (ford) when they bought them new and it was less than a grand total for two vehicles.

I think people have to many gadgets now-a-days.. I guess if your going on looog trips, then I can see the DVD players for the kids. Other wise, my car time driving for me is pretty simples, driving, and listening to the radio and talking to my kids. In reality, my DS just reads books and plays with a couple of toys while riding in the car. He gets enough tv at home.
Not downing any one that has all that stuff in their car, just sometimes I think it's too much.
