Thread: Smoke Damage Removal

I had a small fire at my house last Wednesday morning and have finally gotten back in here today but the smell is awful. Our fuse box caught on fire in the basement. Most of the fire damage was contained in the basement but the smoke smell is everywhere. Any ideas on the quickest and cheapest way to get rid of it? Especially in a velour couch and mattresses. Thanks.

My mom had a grease fire and insurance sent someone out who cleaned everything. Do you have insurance? Consider contacting them and seeing what they can do for you. If it won't pay for this, they still might have some tips on how to remove the odor.

Unfortunately we didn't have insurance but my landlord had someone come to clean it for me yesterday and today. I was so glad I didn't lose my furniture and it smells sooo much better in here.

It was one of the old time fuse boxes that was in here. He never upgraded to a breaker box but has now. As for the insurance I didn't have it because I can't afford it right now. My husband and I seperated last summer and I am having a hard time just making the bills. Child support hasn't gone through yet and with 5 kids its hard but thank you for your responses.
