So how do you take people off your Christmas card list?
my list is growing and honestly I'm sending cards to people I haven't seen in years -- I've tried to not send cards to them but they ultimately arrive a day or two before Christmas and they I feel obligated to send one back...

Just stop sending them a card. I don't receive a card for everyone I send out. Eventually, you will stop receiving a card from those you don't care about hearing from. Honestly for me...if someone takes the time to send me a card, then they deserve one back. It's those who don't bother sending one back to me that I consider removing from my list. And...I even excuse some of them. People just don't send cards like they used to. Me...I love sending cards (with my annual holiday letter...but that's another post..LOL).
And...even if a card is simply signed (with no note) and even if they used address labels...I don't care. It still takes time and energy and some thought to get cards out!

Just stop sending them is the only thing you can do. I've cut my list way back. Immediate family and maybe 5-6 friends.

Thats why I only send New Years cards to people who send me Holiday cards.

I mail out Christmas cards to everyone on my list, regardless if I get one from them or not. I don't play that game.
You never know, maybe your one of the only people they recieve a card from, perhaps it's just not there thing to send them out to people.
Of course I like to get cards in the mail, but even if I don't from some people, doesn't mean that I cut them from my list... tis the season, better to give than recieve. And if I brighten someones day with my card, then great!

Most of my friends have email, so I send ecards, they are free and can be customized, not just generic like they used to be. So next time you talk to your friends, ask for their email address. Send cards to immediate family and best friends, email cards to the rest!

As tight as money is around here, I send to my 3 sisters, my 3 kids, my 3 grandkids, mother-in-law, and 1 brother-in-law. And I buy the cards at the dollar store so it's not as expensive. I want those particular cards to be recipient specific and not generic. Every few years I buy a box of cards so as to give to my 2 neighbors and do not mail them but hand deliver. And my friend in Australia I send an e-card to.
When I realized the people I was sending to weren't sending to me, I stopped sending to them...with no hard feelings. If I don't see someone for the whole year or talk to them, it seems silly to send a card.

I send everyone on my list a card. It doesnt matter to me if I get one back or not, at least they know I am thinking of them at Christmas. It is just part of Christmas for me.
