    Sleep paralysis

Have any of you ever suffered from it? I think my 13 year old might have had an episode of it this weekend. He came in to my room freaking out, swearing he wasn't going back to bed because someone had pinned him to the bed, and he couldn't move, and he could hear them nailing him down.

I made light of it and asked him if he was pinned to the bed and couldn't get up, why was he in my room?

Anyone else have anything like this happen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_Paralysis

It happened to me once 10 years ago when I was spending the night at one of my exs.I was dreaming that a vampire was hovering in the corner of the ceiling(think John Carpenters Vampires). When I woke up I was laying on my stomach and it felt like someone was laying on top of me pinning me down and I swear I heard someone say its ok daddys here.At first I thought it was my ex since sometimes I called him daddy as a joke cause he was much older then me.I tryed to scream but nothing would come out. When I was finally able to move I rolled over and saw that he was sleeping.Freaked me out to say the least.Since his house was said to be haunted I thought it might have been a ghost but then I heard about sleep paralyis and really think thats what I experianced.

He couldn't tell me what he was dreaming before waking up, but he was really scared.

I've seen people talk about something holding them down on the haunted show. I can imagine he was freaked out pretty bad. I would have been.

There is a type of sleep paralyses that I used to get before I got my cpap and I understand it is common for people with sleep apnea. It is the feeling of being awake but not being able to move but I don't remember thinking an actual person or thing was holding me down. I just was awake but couldn't move and it is indeed very scary.

I don't know if this is what yur talking about but every so often I am about to awake but am not fully awake. I can see, but cannot move at all. It is a scarey time often. The first time I had it <was about 10?> I was trying to move my arms and legs and couldn't then I tried to scream and I couldn't do that either, and eventually woke up. after that they weren't as scary until a girl went missing around here and I was watching it on the news. I fell assleep on the couch and had another incident and there she was, had this white thing on and it was flowing and above her was glowing white and her eyes were moving all over, she didn't say anything and then I woke up and I was sooooooo scared, but not really. I take it as it was all over news, and everyone was/and is worried. Anyways I couldn't move and I just watched her until I was able to fully wake up.

I had sleep paralysis once when I was a teenager. I woke up and could not move. I couldnt even move a finger! And it felt like something was pressing down on my entire body. It lasted what seemed like a long time but then my body started to get that tingly sensation when your foot falls asleep. That was REALLY annoying-it tickled and hurt at the same time. Finally I was able to get up and move around. At the time I thought it was a reaction to some cold meds I was taking. I have never had another episode since that was so intense and long. Every once in awhile I will wake up and feel pressure on me and not be able to move for a few seconds but it doesnt last.

My nephew suffered with it for years, mostly in his teen years. He said it feels like "pure evil" is in the room, and he would see things. I studied up on it, and, found that stress plays a BIG role in it... like in the teenage years.

My Mom used to wake up having a feeling of being held down, and, that she couldn't breathe. It would scare her bad... I don't think it happens much now that she's older.

I had them up until last year. And, I am 41!
Where I can not speak, move or anything. It is frightful to say the least. And generally, I can not sleep again that night.

I am not saying that i will not experience it again, but it has been abit over a year since I have had an episode.

I didn't read the other replies, so I don't know if someone already said it... I have sleep paralysis all the time... it scared me until I met someone who told me they have out of body experiences and that's the stage at which they think you step out... Cause your mind is aware but you haven't woke up yet (which is why most ppl are dreaming something is happening to them).

Anyways... I play w/ it now... I actually really love it... slipping in and out and trying so hard to make yourself move... the only time it really sucks for me now is when I give myself a charlie horse.
