cookie dough
I want to make roll and cut cookies with my grandchildren.
Can I make the dough ahead of time and roll and cut when the kids are here? Has anyone tried freezing cookie dough? Thanks

cookie dough is *great* when its frozen, its a great way to make now and cook later, lol! actually, right now my daughter is selling two pound tubs of frozen cookie dough (which she does every year as a fund raiser) so yes, its absolutely an option! have fun with your grandkids

I don't see why you can't. I have bought cookie dough from the kids that sell stuff for school, and we freeze that.

Yes, you can freeze cookie dough. I have 2 examples for you:
My mom used to make oatmeal cookies and freeze the dough in a roll, just like you buy in the grocery store. We would get the frozen roll out, slice off how many we wanted to make, and put the rest back.
I work in a school kitchen, and we make the dough several days before we want to bake the cookies. We then "ball up" the cookie dough on cookie sheets, putting the balls close together. The day we want to make them, we get them out and space the balls on the cookie sheets so they will bake properly. If there are any frozen balls left, we put them in plastic bags and pop them back in the freezer.
Good luck and have fun!

Balling them sounds good, I wonder if you could individually wrap them in plastic wrap, that way you wouldn't have your freezer full of cookie sheets waiting for them to freeze (so they wouldn't stick together). The rolls sound good also...... thanks for the tips!

My mom always used plastic containers and made balls, then between the layers of balls she put wax paper, then another layer of balls. Keep going until container was full and then freeze. She then reused the container to put the baked cookies in.

I freeze mine all the time. I wrap it in waxed paper. The problem is trying to not break pieces off everytime you open the freezer.
I am actually sad I won't be baking for Christmas this year.
Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

SUGAR COOKIE dough is the easiest and best I think. Since you have to refrigerate it for at least 4 hrs anyway, you can make it a couple of days ahead and just keep in the fridge or freeze it, wrapped for 6 months.
It's only kinky the first time.
