question about diabetes and weight loss

I have diabetes and I am very obese. About 5 months ago I cut what I was eating in about half. I continued to check my sugars as I was decreasing my calorie intake. Eventually I was able to eliminate my Byetta and my oral diabetic medicine. I just had my A1C and it was 6. On my diabetic medicine when I was eating so much more my A1C ran about 5.7 My big comment , question is why haven't I lost any weight? I haven't lost a single pound. Does this make any sense? Are there people who really can't lose weight? Any help?

cutting the food may not actually lead to weight loss alone. And it could be a combination of what you are eating.
Move more, encrease your bodily movements: walking is great for diabetics.
My husband is diabetic, and the dr just suggested he lose 50 to 80 pounds. I freaked. THAT IS TOO MUCH for him.
I agreed to 30 pounds for him. We started walking more, and eat salads with dinner EVERY NIGHT. I walk 3 to 5 miles a day, he walked maybe 1/2 or so. He is now up to 2 miles a day

    Push fiber!
Lots of leafy greens, and fresh raw veggies are helpful.
He stopped drinking and soda... the carbonation is bad for you, diet or otherwise.
Caffiene causes weight to stay on... cut back on the consumption of that.

Joe has a FOODS TO AVOID sheet... I can scan it and email it to you, if you want...
Basically... no breads, no pastas, no potatoes or anythingthat tastes good.

He has lost 15 pounds in 5 weeks. I am happy with that rate.

You can also ask your doctor for advice on how to jump start the weight loss.

I would love to have it. I tried to send you a message but I can't because my mailbox on here is full and I can't figure out how to empty it. I will put my email address on here and then remove it after it's had time to get to your box.

Go to your private messages. Check mark the ones you want to delete. At the bottom where it says selected messages click on it. Go to delete and click and then at the bottom click on proceed. That is how you delete the messages. It took me a while to figure it out when I was trying to delete some.

even if you are eating half of what you usually ate, it sounds like it still is more than what your body needs. I can tell you from person experience that diabetes is very deadly, most members of my family have had it, and have lost their eyes, limbs, and eventually died. It is very serious.

Your doctor should suggest/or give you a meal plan with the amount of carbs and calories for daily intake, also with some suggestions and perhaps recipes of what you can and cannot eat.
I would discuss it with your doctor and see what he says. When I had the gestational, I was only allowed to eat 40 carbs per meal. Sucked.
Even just simple walks, if you live in town, perhaps around the block or go to the park or something. It will start getting cooler soon so hopefully that will make it easier to get outside and get some excersize, I know it does me!!

I don't know if its true or not but I've heard some diabetes medicine makes you be hungry and eat more. Look on the internet and see if thats one of the side effects of your medicine and maybe you can get the doctor to change it if it does. I hope you lose what you want too.

    gmeyers may have something...

My husband kept getting tired, and his morning readings were going up, even with the dietary restrictions and his meds.
After a week of 200 plus, I made a dr appointment. His body stopped reacting to the medicine he was on (7 years on it).
So, the dr changed his meds. And within 3 days, he was getting better readings.. Now a month later, I have not seen anything over 121 (and that was after a cook out)

I will send the information to you on what his dr has him avoiding....

I've heard that with the medicines also, I believe my MIL's high blood pressure medicine was making her reading really high and had to have it re-adjusted.

Thanks yall, I went to the Salvation Army today and walked around for about an hour and a half shopping. Oh I know , not the same as walking but it is an improvement. We are going to rejoin the pool next week too. I have to be very careful with roughage because of my illeostomy and getting obstructed. No raw veggies or fruit except oranges and bananas. Greens have to be eaten with something that dilutes the roughage. I am determined to lose this weight. I think your husband's 15 lb weight loss is fantastic. I would be thrilled with that. Yes send me the info.
