Grrr. Upset about my son's friend
I have a four year old who has type 1 Diabetes. We just discovered this a little over a year ago. He made a friend at preschool who loves to shove the I can eat sugar and you can't down his face.
His most recent thing is those kellog cereal promotion Toy Story. The little boy's mom took both boys to go see it and the kid ordered that little alien using the codes. Now my kid wants one but there is no way we are eating 6 boxes of cereal by the expiration date. We are good about keeping his diet as our own here. So of course that little kid carries his alien around and my son has finally really broken down and cried about it. We gave him the little alien as a gift but the one from the cereal works as a night light. So frustrating.
I know I can keep him away from the kid but since my little guy is such a shrimpo, this kids the only one who doesn't pick on him for that reason.
Thanks for listening.

I would talk to his mother.....at that age he is old enough to understand what it means to be a good friend....and while they may need reminders, if the parents don't tolerate that kind of behavior then you should see improvement. Otherwise I'd be finding other children for my child to hang out with.
Also I know your son is little, but he is old enough to understand that there are some things he just cannot have. My daughter doesn't have a medical condition (thankfully) but there have been plenty of times when we would go somewhere with a friend and the friend's parents would purchase something for their kid and of course my dd would want one too......However if I told her no she knew not to cry and carry on. As a parent I would not tolerate one of her friends rubbing it in either......I would say to the child that they were not being nice friends and that if they don't have anything nice to say they need not say it.

Why should this other child not be allowed to have his toy? He isnt taunting your child, he is playing with his favorite toy. Stop being upset @ a 4 y/o , I may be flamed but the world does not revolve around your child and there is no way you can call parent up and say take this toy away from your child because my child cant. Be careful not to isolate this child since he is his your sons only friend.
Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one's watching

.
I took this to mean that the kid really rubs things in and that is wrong. If the boy just has a toy your kids wants then that is one thing. But if the boy is really being bratty saying things like I have this and you can't blah blah blah....all the time, then the kid is a brat!

Is this a UPC code that is needed or just the numbers from the box?
If it's just the numbers from the box....perhaps if one or a few of our members are not using their codes....they might 'donate' them for you to use?
What are the cereals involved?
P.S. kids stink!

We don't eat that type/brand of cereal but I think this is a great idea! Even if it's more than that, perhaps some of the members could help collect what he needs for this toy.

Gret idea, pepperpot! I'll check to see if I have any. Kids really can be cruel.

4 year olds can be brats at times, and yes, I have 3 children so I'm allowed to say it LOL.
Must be hard for your little boy to have that on his shoulders about diabetes for his age and having to watch his sugar and all, must not seem fair at times for him.
This is most definitly something that I would love to see a cure for.

He might not be picking on your son because of his size, but he is making fun of him over a different matter. I personally wouldn't want such a brat around my child to influence him, kwim?
