    Clogged Arteries

It's strange that people are so different. I have a couple that lives near me and she is obese and he weighs about 100 pounds. They found out that he has clogged arteries and she doesn't. I've always heard if you're overweight you are more at risk than a thin person. I guess it just proves that's not always the case.

I agree. People always say about overweight people having them but I've seen a lot of regular size people have them too. I guess it depends on your lifestyle or heredity and not just weight. Or maybe he's a smoker that causes them too I think.

My previous Dr. told me that those problems are probably 75% to 80% hereditary. She and her DH were both very fit and ate the same things and his cholesterol was over 300 and hers was 130.

This is why it's so stupid for the government to get involved telling people what to eat, etc. I had an uncle who smoked his whole life and he started at like age 15 or younger. He lived into his eighties.

So much is hereditary and genes. Let people and their doctors decide if what they are doing is affecting their health.

He's very lucky. My husband and brother-in-law have smoked most of their lives. My husbands very sick from it but he isn't. But my husband also smoked more packs than he did. I know my husbands sister had copd just like he did so it must run in their family.

A few years ago my stepdaughter and I worked at the same company. They had a "health fair" and had people come in to do blood work and so forth. My stepdaughter was(at that time) very active, exercised constantly, strict diet, all that, and her colesteral was over 250. I am fat(oh, yes I am), dont exercise, eat pretty mch how I want without overdoing it on purpose, and mine was 142. My MIL(ex-nurse) had a conniption since stepdaughter was doing everything "right". I have no idea what my stepdaughter's numbers are now, but mine are still in the "pert near perfect" range.

I am extremely obese. My husband and I went to the dr yesterday. He has lost 35 lbs since Christmas without trying. He had some to lose so it's not unhealthy except we don't know why. They have run all kinds of test looking for cancer, nothing so far. His cholesterol is high and mine isn't. He had an irratic heart beat yesterday, turned out just to be throwing PVC's but still. I had a heart attack 3 yrs ago but my cholesterol is within the normal range, just barely but there. We are both diabetic. I took Avandia and feel 100% it is the cause of my heart attack but since I am overweight many and I mean many people want to blame ALL my problems on my weight. I just changed cardiologist, first time I ever gave up on a dr, but all she wanted to do was fuss at me about my weight. My husband's mom had high cholesterol, weighed about 90 lbs and lived to 93. My dad, diabetic, heavy, smoker, lived to 83. Emphysema killed him. I told my husband and dr, my husband has to quit losing weight or we will be like Jack Sprat and his wife.

I have very high cholesterol. I was shocked when I found out. I am a bit overweight but not bad, I don't eat most of the things that should cause my cholesterol to be high. Our family doctor said that I probably inherited the problem from my Dad. He was skinny and his cholesteral was through the roof. My mom, on the other hand was obese due to hypothyroidism and hers was normal.
    Missing Mommy and Daddy.
Missing my Lady,Dingo, Mitzi and Spud.
    Missing my Aunt Ann.
