Horror (or happy) stories about living next door to a friend?
Just wondering if any of you have any stories about a friend moving in next door (or a few doors down) and lived to tell the tale? LOL
The other half of our duplex is for rent, and friends are considering it, which is why I wonder what all of you have to say on the subject!
We had us, we had him, now we have everything.

I had my best friend live next door to me about 10 years ago. I have since moved, but at times it was great, other times it was awful. She used me in different ways, and really sucked the life out of me. She is an emotional vampire. She is a better friend from 500 miles away.

I've never had friends live next door but I would think it could kill a friendship if your not careful.

That's how I feel about it too. I can see where it could make things stressful.

I have never lived next door to anyone I was friends with before. I think it can definitely have good and bad sides. I have times where I just don't want to talk to people (friends included) and if you live next door to them, its kind of hard to pretend you aren't home LOL

I prefer to have my friends not live next door to me. My BFF tried to rent the house next door to me and I told the landlord I would make her life miserable if she rented to them. They are great friends but they are horrible renters and I didn't want the landlord (who is a friend that I have know all my life) to have to deal with them. Thankfully they found a house they liked better in another neighborhood 2 miles away.

We didn't move next door to our best friends...but our next door neighbors became our best friends. We lived next door for 13 years and when they decided to move, we decided to move away from the old neighborhood as well. It's been 20 years since we were next door neighbors and we are STILL best friends. We don't see each other as often as we would like...but no one is there for us like they are...and I hope they feel the same way.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

That is so cool, and really a unique dynamic. It was proximity that drew you together and then your likeness that made you CLOSE...that is very cool. I have story after story about bad neighbors, so I am rather jealous of you right now!!

I never had a friend live next to me, but at one time, one brother lived across the street, another lived next door. Lets just say to this day, My door is always LOCKED. My brothers were ignorant rude jerks, and it was nothing for them to just walk in without knocking. I hope to never live that close to a relative again, and am glad one is 600 miles away, and the other lives 50 miles from me.

My 2 girls lived in the same apartment building with one apartment between them. They set up rules. They didn't go to each others apartments without calling first. One was married and one wasn't. They didn't run in the same circles so it wasn't the same as friends living next door so I guess this doesn't relate to your question.

I've never had a friend live next door, but we did let my friend move in with us for about 6 months. It was awesome because she was single (had a BF but he didn't live with her. Stayed over once in awhile, but we stayed out of that.) and requested to watch our then 4 year old so that my DH and I could go out once a week. I think as long as you both set your bounderies up front and don't let things slide (not even once) than it will work out. Just because she's your friend doesn't mean you should lower your expectations on how a neighbor should be.
