    How do you eat?

Do you eat a meat , 2 vegetables, a starch for a meal? Do you eat at a table or in front of the tv? Do you talk at the table or are you quiet? Do you say a blessing before you eat?
Are the habits of yesteryear dying out or is it just my age?

When I grew up, meal time meant the kitchen table, no tv, plenty of happy conversation and, of course, meat, vegetables and starch. There was always a green vegetable too.
I did the same when I raised my children until my son was about 14.
It seems people are getting away from that. I know we eat horribly now. I love cooking casseroles because it is just one dish to clean up. I know now that my father never liked casseroles so that's why we didn't have many at home. Our eating habits have deterioted terribly. Sometimes we just have cold cereal for supper. I will also realize it has been 3 or 4 days since we had a green vegetable. I am going to try to do better.

when I was young dinner was at 5 o'clock on the dot when my dad came home from work -- always at the kitchen table, no TV or anything, we weren't even allowed to talk it was time to eat and we always had meat, veggie, starch and salad at the end of the meal

Dinner time now is a little hectic with the kids schedules, who has practice who has a game, what time dh is getting home that night -- so there is no set time, we still have supper at the kitchen table, no tv and we all talk about our day -- most of the time we are all together but sometimes it's just 2 or 3 of us -- dinner more often has meat and veggies and we skip the starch because we are eating so late, a lot of times I try to find vegetarian alternatives so we are eating healthy but not such a heavy meal at 8 o'clock at night

My son and I eat a small piece of meat and two or three vegetables. My Dh eats like a 12 year old with money. He has the metabolism of a hummingbird and eats all sorts of junk. The beast doesn't have an extra ounce on him. My son hates shopping with me, he'll say "Mom, these people think all that junk is for me. They don't know it's for my stepdad." My kid and I eat out about twice a week.

Since my husband works nights my son (17) and I usually eat in front of TV, but we're watching something together and talking about it. When DH is home we eat in the dining room, TV off.

Its usually just my DS and myself but we always eat at the table and the tv is always OFF! As for the meat/veggie thing, I dont follow a rule. Sometimes we dont eat any meat, but if we do, I always serve at least 2 veggies. When my BF makes dinner, I swear he serves a 7 course meal. There is always a salad to start, then entree and veggies and bread and a dessert!!!

At the table, all electronics OFF: even cell phones (except for Joe's work phone: 24 hour call)

We have a meat (5 nights a week), 2 nights are meatless. Always a veggie or more, a startch. Sometimes, the starch is the meal; like Bake potato night (served with a salad).

All meals are at the table, lunch and breakfast at the table. Small snacks I allow on the floor in front of a movie.. but not while watching a short regular tv show, or while playing with any electronic item. It uspets T that I do not let him eat at the video game, or on the computer or in front of the TV. That is all he is used to doing. No one ate together. I mean, no even the same times!

I state everyone as to be at the table before we eat.
We talk about our day, or plans or whatever we come up with.
    I enjoy that time!
So hard, not to facepalm some people
