Speaking of ADHD ...
DS is 14 and had advanced past Adderall - we tried Vyvance but it had unpleasant side effects. We are using Concerta ... but it takes too long to kick in and wears off too soon. I heard of another but I can't remember the name ... any feedback from what ya'll have experienced ?
TY

There is also Stratera (sp?) My son is on Concerta but I think we are going to try something else in the fall. I am going to give him a break for the summer. Good luck!
Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
Piss on it and walk away.

If I were to give DS a "break" in the summer - I will end up breakin' his neck. I am trying to work thru the adjustment period so he will be ready for school in the fall. Going into high school he needs any advantages I can get for him.

My DD was on Metidate CD for years. It worked really well and didn't turn her into a zombie (which is what we experienced with adderall)
The only side affect was that it did curb her appetite for about the first 6 mo and were we giving her ensure as a supplement (she is little anyway).
The Metidate would wear off about 5pm (even tho its sposed to be 24 hour) which was fine since we only really need it to work during school. (she can cut loose at home).
The one thing that we did (with doctors permission) was not give it to her on weekends and while she was not in school (spring break, summer, etc). That way her body gets a break from it and it seems to work better when she gets those breaks.

This could have been written by me!! My son was on Metidate CD as well. Right off hand I can't remember why the doctor took him off that and switched to Adderall XR, but as I recall, he did well with it. He could probably use an adjustment on the Adderall XR right now (well, when school starts in the fall), but his doctor said that it would really affect his appetite and he is little too, but he doesn't like the taste of Boost for kids, Pediasure on Ensure.
The same as you, we took breaks from it on weekends and not in school. The only thing with my son, he can't swallow pills so we have to have something that can be opened and sprinkled onto cold food (applesauce, yogurt).

my daughter was on concerta and it also weared off early in the evening, about 4-5o'clock. I can't for the life of me remember what it is called, but she took a small dosage of something else to get her through the evening. My daughter has been off of all medication now for a year.....

Adderall XR - he has simply outgrown the highest dosage to the point it was no longer effective. Started to have trouble with grades ( focus and attention span ) and disipline ( that little govenor on your brain that tells you NOT to say every little thing that pops into it ... not working ) He is still gaining weight and height so we are adjusting his meds to find a balance. With the right mix - he makes A's & B's and scored "Advanced" on 3 out of 4 categories on the LEAP test, is well behaved and polite and is all around a GREAT kid ( don't tell him I said so - he will get a fat head.... )
