    Wink

Ya know, I thought I was messy... then I watched Hoarders. I know that Hoarding is a "mental illness" but come on now...
Yes, my floors need swept and mopped. The counters need wiped down. But I do the laundry every day and the dishes too... and I can see my floors and not trip over anything over than the dog and cat. I am not confined to 1 room.
Hubby could be called a neat freak... but he's adapted to my lack of enthusiasm for cleaning. I called it controlled chaos. LMAO!

This is my Mom. The main floor of her home is clean & mostly clutter-free. Her basement & attic are a whole different matter. She has curtains upstairs that are 40+ years old.
Last weekend my siblings & I had arranged to tidy-up her home & she had a literal melt-down so we did absolutely nothing.
The woman is asthmatic & doesn't understand that the mold & mildew gowing in her wet basemant & the dust from 40 year old curtains & books is what is triggering her asthma.
I am the total opposite. If I haven't used it in a year it is donated. She would have freaked if she saw the 4 bags of clothes I donated this morning.

I live in a mobile home and have no room for "stuff!" But, I also have no inclination to hang onto stuff I don't use, won't use, doesn't fit, etc. For me, sometimes, less is more. I must say I don't understand how folks can actually live in a bad situation as those in the TV show Hoarders, but it's a psychological thing with them and it's more than being just a bad housekeeper. If only it were that simple!

    Red face

Actually my Step-Grandma (Step-Mom's Mom) is/was a Hoarder. I know my Dad and Renee' (Step Mom) had to literally bring in those big ass dumpsters you can rent, and they filled it MULTIPLE times. She also had dozens of cats and dogs in the home, some had passed away too. They had to demo the whole house more or less. She was in the nursing field, I think. And I've talked to her in detail about it... she told me that it was because she never got over the divorce. That was probably 16 years ago and at that point they been divorced like 15 years maybe? My dad married a young one. He's going to be 61 (OMG) and I think my Step Mom is like in her mid-40's. Yeah. My Uncle did one better and has been married 3 times I think... and the last one had kids younger than his GRANDKIDS. Apparently it runs on that side of the family. LMAO!

But yeah, they'd done a lot of work the last time I was back home, and it STILL needed a LOT of work. Thank God my Dad has always been in the construction/maintenance field because really that whole house should of been condemned. *sigh*

Nice woman, but just seems caught in the past. She has a son and another daughter besides Renee' and NONE of them are like that.

I think my Mom would DIE before she became a Hoarder. John's all about being orderly too... so they both ride my ass about being neat. My Mom's landlord is a hoarder. And Mom just got done telling her she is NOT renting her house so that Melinda (land lady) can use it as a storage unit.

My mom and both brothers hoard everything! I have noticed plastic bottle caps in piles: toys that are broken (but HAVE VALUE one day) pilked everywhere.
I live by the; if I have not touched it in a year: get rid of it attitude.

Ok: so I keep the baby books, and photos: but they are all in my cedar chest, which I use as a bench at the foot of my bed.

My younger brother has never thrown out a thing.
Older brother: he saved his 22 year old daughter's first DIAPER!
So hard, not to facepalm some people

Okay now THAT is a major skeeve for me. Mom doesn't save things like that or garbage.
This chariatible organization around here comes around every 3 months or so & you can donate any useable clothing or household goods. I used to bring up items from my home & drop them off the day of the collection in front of Mom's home. She would then go get the bags & go through everything & take items out for herself.
Imagine an 80 year old woman trying to pull off a mini skirt & babydoll dress. NOT pretty! I now take my items directly to Goodwill.
