    Cutting fresh pineapple

My friend bought a pineapple and got one free so she gave one to me.
I'm not sure how to cut it without wasting a lot. Anybody know how and want to tell me? Thanks.

we probably do ours very wastefully -- I slice the top and bottom off and then just take straight slices off the sides until all the peel is off -- then cut into slices -- if you have a ncie ripe pineapple it's delish! (I usually judge a ripe pineapple by how easy it is to pull the leaves out of the top and how sweet it smells)

I usually just cut it up in rings and trim off the edges.

That's how I do it too. Don't forget to "plant" your pineapple topper. Just set it on a pot of soil and treat it like a plant.

Does it grow you a new pineapple? Wow. How long does it take? Also, you don't bury any part of the topper...just allow the roots to shoot out from the bottom of the topper into the soil?

Sorry if I sound stupid...I just had never heard of that and, as much pineapple as I eat, I definitely want to try it!

BTW, Pampered Chef makes a fantastic pineapple slicer/corer. Takes a lot of the work out of getting to the inside!

    Not stupid at all hon.
I have no room in my house so I just do a quickie on the back porch in the summertime. Once I did get a tiny pineapple but had no room for it to continue.

Here's a page that explains the correct way to plant the tops and get produce.

We have several pineapple bushes in our flowerbeds. There are 2 really bad predators for pineapples that you might want to be aware of 1) the lawn guy and 2) neighbors. If you can put them on the back side of your home to ward off predators and warn the lawn guy. They do take a while to produce and I usually get 1 per plant per year.

The fresh pineapple made my mouth sore. I mentioned it to my husband because I thought I was allergic and he said it made his mouth sore too. Has aniyone else had fresh pineapple do that to them?
