I remember those chickens. I had a purple one. And yes, it was a rooster. I don't think I have heard of anyone getting a hen.

I loved G.C. Murphy. We visited their lunch counter everytime we went to the shopping center where they were located. I remember getting a doll kit that would make a pretty doll to sit on a bed.

On the subject of toys, does anyone remember the doll houses made out of tin? I got two of them one year for Christmas--a ranch style from my Mom and a two story one from my Aunt Ann.

I love this thread. Brings back lots of happy memories.

Just had to reply, even though some may say I am replying to myself. But I just had to say hi from the southwestern corner of Ohio. My hubby travles I75 every day that he works. Ever been through Arlington Heights on 75? Better be careful there.

Yes, I remember spoolies. I thought they were long gone by now.

Care to share what kind of detector you have? That would make a wonderful gift for my hubby.

We have 2. One is classic black, from the 40s-50s & the other is more of a late 60s-early 70s beige color.
Neither of them work., they have an old-timey plug that doesn't work with the new modern outlets.
One of these days I need to re-wire them.
You can still find them from time to time @ flea markets & antique shops, I've seen re-wired ones go for $50.

My sister was a Cub Scout den mother many years ago, and one of the boys went to the kitchen phone to call his mom to pick him up. She had a rotary wall phone there, and he said it wasn't working. When she went to see what the problem was, she found out he was sticking his finger in the holes on the dial, but wasn't moving it to make it work. The only phone he knew was a pushbutton kind, and didn't know that he had to make the ring go around :)

And we had both kinds of 'portable' hair dryers - one had the soft vinyl cap to put over your curlers in a circular zippered case, and the other was hard plastic and looked more like a salon-type dryer cone that had a folding arm that you could snap over the base where the controls were. We didn't use them so much after we started using large juice cans to roll our hair...

dh and I were talking about something we never hear anymore, when we were kids the siren from the fire station would sound every day at exactly noon -- we don't hear it anymore

We both use, Cobra XRS 9545 Voice Alert 14 Band Radar/Laser Detector with POP Radar Gun Detection and DigiView Data Display. I bought them both on Amazon. They have a pretty big selection. Neither one of us are big speed demons, but these things have more than paid for themselves in a short period of time.LOL. I have been through that area many times. The local police are really bad around Sharonville, too! I live about 100 miles north of you in Shelby County. I-75 is just bad everywhere in Ohio.

LOL, I know all about Sharonville too. Hubby works in Sharonville and he knowes all their hiding places. It's not just on 75 that they hide out, they hide out on Sharon Road and 42.

I also know about Evendale, Lockland and Reading. I think Lockland may be the worse of those three. They hide on 75 north and south bound and also on different side streets. Lockland has their regular hiding spots but they will move around from time to time to a new spot.

Are you getting a storm? We are. Lots of lighning.

As for the topic at hand, I never see Jacks made out of metal or those spongy red balls that I bought for 10 cents when I was a child. Don't see kids flying kites anymore either.

When I was a child, we had the kind of skates that clamped onto your shoes and you used a skate key to tighten them. Does anyone even remember those?

The Nightrider raises her hand and yells "Me, me". I had a pair of them. Those were very nifty skates. My friends and I skated many a mile with those skates.

Edited to add that that key had two different functions. With one end, you tightened the skates and the other end was used to adjust the length of the skate.

The storm has calmed down. It was pretty bad for a while. You can get the metal jacks at Lehman's store. It is a really cool place up in northeast Ohio. http://www.lehmans.com/store/Toys___...&from_search=1 They are a little MORE expensive than .10 cents though!
