    Wedding

I am getting married in July and it is going to be a hawaiian themed wedding and I am not hiring a company to cook food so I need ideas for some easy "hawaiian"food I need to feed about 144 people (thats why i cant hire anyone to do it for me to expensive)I am wanting something that can be cooked or prepared earlier in the day and put out so we can enjoy ourselves and not worry about food and drinks for 144 people. Also chicken is the only meat I can serve and no sea food because of my allergies.

Thanks in advance I am having a melt down over this.

i would say lots of fruit, specially tropical fruit. ie: pineapple, kiwi, banana, passion fruit, mango, etc.

incorporate the fruit into the dishes, like sweet n sour chicken. or even chicken w/fruit kabobs. grilled pineapple is awesome! also, if you know someone artistic, maybe they can carve a watermelon or pineapple into a certain shape or face? (check out cruise websites of their food, they do that often!)

    congrats!!

I thought of fruit but was wondering how long it would last and the chicken kabobs are a great idea

After figuring in how much it would take you (in $$ and in nerves) to worry about cooking food, as well as serving it, are you sure it would not just be better to hire someone? Times are tough, and I bet that you could hire someone for a good price.

I dont really have any suggestions as I know nothing about Hawaii or food etc but if you want it buffet then have it that way. It doesnt matter what anyone else thinks its your wedding and as long as YOU dont think its tacky then go for it. Congrats!

Do buffet and rope family into helping you serve. You will need someone to replinish the food as the evening goes along, as the bride, you shouldnt have to worry about that.

Fruit, veggie and pickle/olive trays. Meatballs(maybe sweet and sour) are always a hit. Rolls, condiments, salads like potatoe, cole slaw, fluff, ect, possibilities are endless. I have been to several with buffet that have had cold cuts.

Do you know anyone who could roast a pig for you? That would be typical fare at a hawaiian party. It would also take care of your main meat and is so simple to serve since all that needs to be done is pull the meat and put it in large heated serving trays.

Here is a sites that may help you with some of the dishes:

I've been to several weddings and the only ones I really enjoyed were the low key type... including the buffet style. Maybe I'm just a redneck, but it's your day and no one should make you feel bad... screw 'em if they don't like it!

    Sounds yummy

maybe you could throw a pasta or pasta salad in there? usually inexpensive and goes a long way. I googled Hawaiian pasta salad/Hawaiian macaroni salad and quite a few came up.

Any way for you to hire a waitress or a helper for the day? A mature High Schooler or College kid would take a lot of stress off you.
