Are you a nail biter/ ex nail biter??
I admit it, I bite my nails, and they are REALLY bad, I mean, I even bite and chew the skin around them, they are absolutely disgusting, I bite them untill they are sooo short that I can't bite to take off any more, and sometimes they even bleed because I bite them, and my skin so low, and I hide them around people alot.
I have been doing this since I've been a little girl though, I guess I've been doing it for about 30 somethin' years.
I cannot quit for the life of me, I did almost succesfully once, but I only grew out about 3 nails on each hand so I could have the rest for me to bite. Yeah, I know, all this sounds bad, but Imma tellin' the truth...
I am trying to get back in the job market, and I need to quit desperately because of the kind of work I could be doing, it just groses me out to think of all the germs, but yet, I do it, and have forever.....
Has anyone ever quit biting there nails succesfully, and what did you do???
I am week, I feel like I have no will power over this.

I'm a nail biter also. Once I let my nails grow out but they were so weak they would bend and start splitting on the side then I would have to cut the nail off. Once it was was I would start biting it again.
My daughter and sister both were nail biters but somehow they stopped biting their nails and let them grow out.
I also started biting my nails as a little girl. My 3 year old granddaughter sees me biting mine, now she bites hers. When I see her doing it I try to get her to stop and I try not to bite mine around her now that I see that she is picking it up.

Yes I did and do on occassion. I do pick my cuticles more than bite my nails. I can quit and do quite often. They are all intact right now. I am a retired nurse so it was inportant that I not bite but occassionally I did. One way I could get myself to stop was to paint my nails. They would look so nice (to me) that I would let them grow. Also keeping them smooth helps. Keep a nail file with you all the time and use it often. That helped me be more aware of when I was biting or picking at them.

I used to until my best friend told me that I should just go lick the toilet because it is just the same. That will make you stop and think about it. They do have No bite at walmart and it taste real nasty that might help. If your nails are easy to break try taking Calcium and magnesium.
I speak my mind because it hurts to bite my tongue!

try using biotin. it is the building block of all proteins in your body, nails, bones, etc. Once you have long pretty nails you won't want to bite them anymore.

HA HA (not to you directly)
I take biotin for my hair, yes, it made my nails seem to grow faster, which gave me more to chew....
But it has made my hair grow in thick and full, it's amazing stuff, for me anyway.
I have used fingernail polish, but it does look disgusting on my nails though since they are extremely short, and with my cuticles and skin around them being bitten. I end up chewing off the polish.

I had a wonderful science teacher in 6th grade,Mr. Wardell, there were about 5 nail biters in class... Until he showed us their nails under a powerful microscope and we saw the "worms" the cells moving around and every single one of the nail biters quit that day lol

Yeah... you won't like my solution... I quit when I had all my teeth pulled.

I bit my nails till I was about 21. When I finally really, really wanted to stop, I started paying really good attention to my nails. I mean once EVERY day, I used a fine grit file to smooth away any slight unevenness or any chips or tears. I kept my cuticles cleaned up, and put on a clear coat of polish at least every other day, usually a strengthening top coat. Color won't look good at first cause they are so beat up, but clear coat will help.
Two things, if you can afford them - there is a nail strengthener called Nail Tek, it comes in 2 different formulas, one for soft, peeling nails, and one for dry, brittle nails. Every client I have recommended this to loves it, and I get it for both my Grandmothers. It costs about $10, and you have to get it at a salon, or store that sells salon products (I do see it at Fred Meyer too), but very worth it. And if all else fails, most people don't bite acrylic nails! But I know that adds up fast. Good luck in quitting!

I used to when I was younger and my nailbeds are really short, I hate it. I don't any more, but they break really easily now. My boys both bite theirs and its terrible, they chew the skin around too. Its a really hard habit to break, I know that.
