Question for the facebook pros
I have run into the problem of a certain family member that has been posting some comments that are a tad inappropriate for others to be seeing. I can't block him totally because he's family, but it is a bit embarassing to try to explain a frat boy's immaturity to people I am just reconnecting with. Is there anyway I can partially block him or his comments anyway? Sorry. Trying not to make other family members upset.

with my experience (which is only a couple of months!) if you dont want to block him, send him a private message and let him know that other family members that you both are "friends" with see everything he writes. not only that, any employer or potential employer will look you up! just like dr. phil said "dont ever text or put anything on the internet that you wouldnt mind your grandma reading".

If it is that bad you should send him a message or just block him. You can "hide" his posts instead of blocking them. You will not see his posts on your feed page and you can "unhide" him whenever you want to see his posts.

"Hide" would be perfect. How do I do that?

You can hide a person by putting your cursor over one of their posts. In the top right corner of the post a button will appear that says "hide", click that.

I had to do that with my 16 year old neice. Her posts were very embarrassing in the language she used, and I didnt want them appearing where others could see them on my page, so I hid her.

I'd either hide the posts or flat out tell them to watch what they post because they were inappropriate.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

Hiding is a great option because the poster hasn't a clue that you have hidden them. However, I would also tell them that their posts are inappropriate for FB and they may want to self-censure themselves. What may work when talking face-to-face with friends of their own age, does not work on a social networking site!
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

Hiding him will work just fine. Thanks for all the help.

If I remember you go down to the bottom of your home page and there is a part that says "edit options" and you can go see who you have blocked and you can leave them blocked or unblock them.
