Personally, i think the online schools cost too much and it is way cheaper to go to your local community college. I know here when you go to school, you get the extra money after your classes and books are bought. (with financial aid money) The 4 people I know that are doing it online, 3 don't get any extra money and the other one gets like 300 each session. it's not hard, just apply for grants, scholarships, and financial aid. the less you need in the aid, the less you have to pay back lol. Good luck, it is never to late!!!

I go to Umass Lowell online. Great school, great programs. The online program is wonderful and much cheaper than Phoenix. Not sure on aid, my company pays for it 100%, but I don't believe they are treated any differently as long as it's an accredited college.

Online schools are more expensive and most of them are not accredited. Meaning if you got a degree in accounting you would not be eligible to sit for the state exam and would not be able to use that degree for much more than a coaster for your coffee cup.
Check your local community colleges they are much cheaper and cater to local students. You can go there and also inquire about financial aid. You might not need as much as you think to start taking classes. I would suggest applying for a Pell Grant - they are federal grants that you do not have to pay back. Good luck and congrats on going back to school.

I agree with this! I would be hesitant to enroll at an entirely online university due to the aforementioned issues. I've taken only one online class while an undergrad on route to my Bachelor's, but didn't enjoy it. To be honest, I much preferred the traditional classroom setting.

I tried one class that way also and just could not get motivated to do the class. If I know I have to be in class at a certain time then I will be there but online I can blow it off and end up getting way behind.

Be careful with schools that sell diplomas and not educations. I made that mistake with Everest College. It was a school where you actually went to class everyday, but employers around here know that the education you get at Everest is nothing compared to the education you would get at a community college. It's actually very frowned upon.

One thing you could look into is online courses through a regular college in your area. My mom just finished up her bachelor's, and she did almost all her classes online. It can be a bit complicated finding all the classes you need, I know my mom had to change colleges a few times, but they were all in state, they were regular, accredited colleges, and financial aid worked just the same as if you were attending classes traditionally.

I attend Devry online, they also have a campus here in my state. I was going to school at the campus but when I became a single parent it was easier for me this way. It does cost more than a junior college but really about the same as a university.

My daughter starts school next month and some of her classes will be online and some, she will have to attend.
