I understand what you're saying-----but a lot of people, especially seniors can't afford to have phone service through Alltel, T-Mobile or any other regular phone service, and I hate to tell you, those plans they offer are ridicilous! If you want to have the phone shut off, you have to pay sometimes up to 200.00 per line to have the phone disconnected! My daughter and I had one through T-Mobile, and had to break the contract because we couldn't afford over a hundred dollars a month for their service----you seem to have left out all the taxes you have to pay-----ours started out at 89.00 a month for 800 minutes, and suddenly went to 106.00 a month, and we never used all the minutes----we always had them left over-----I use the cards if I only need extra minutes on the phone between getting mine each month.

I guess, I'm going to let mine run out... because I'm no longer on Food Stamps, and I'm married with a good job... but as far as cheap phones go. DH just got me a Virgin Mobile Mantra in "limited edition" purple for Christmas and only paid $29 (plus tax), I have a very low pre pay thing with them. Only pay $46 tax and all for 300 anytime, 1000 nights/weekends, and unlimited texting. I don't know, maybe that is high but it doesn't seem like it.

No I agree with you. Seniors would probably only use the phone in an emergency, which is great. But for people paying for extra minutes are getting ripped off. Boost is not a contract phone its pay as you go. You still buy cards, but you can choose to do $1 a day unlimted phone calls. So thats $30 a month, where people are paying $30 for how many minutes with each card they buy?

finallly! i got my phone turned back on for another year! and i didnt have to buy an air card. they lie when they tell you that, a supervisor said it was a goverment program and you did not have to buy any extra minutes. the problem is that they are in a call center in another country they dont speak hardy any english and they dont know what they are doing. they have lied and jerked me around since october trying to get verified. i finally had to threaten the right person that i was going to trac phone, upper management the media and tv and the better business bureau and they had it on in 30 minutes.

My mom has her phone through http://www.consumercellular.com/
She gets 200 anywhere minutes and her bill is always $21.50 a month. That is just minutes, she doesn't have any text messages on there but they do have the plans for that and it's not very expensive. After you sign up with them they give you $10 off your bill for every person that signs up under you. When she signed up she got a motorolla phone for $39 and it's a pretty nice phone, flip and it's pink. She has been with them for over a year and has not had any problems and her bill is always the same unless she goes over her minutes which she never does.

I just wanted to add my $0.02 in on this. I got a prepaid smart talk phone from walmart, they have 1000 any time min, 1000 text, internet and free 411 calls all for $30 or for $45 buck you can have unlimited min, text, and internet. There phones are only $29 - $99 bucks.

I know some people who have this so called free phone service and have had nothing but problems.
    Shhh... i'm hunting for freebies

This sounds like a really GREAT plan !!! If I wasn't in love with my iPhone, I'd be on my way to Wal-Mart to get this 'cause you getting way more than I am, for way less !!! What a SWEET ALTERNATIVE !!!
