they give you a certain amount of minutes "each month". if you need more minutes during the month, then you have to pay for them.
these phones are mostly to be used for an emergency.

i know that but they were telling me i had to buy airtime to keep my phone on after my year was up. i refused and talked to someone in another department and she said that this is a goverment program and you do not have to buy minutes unless you want too. and to tell tech support to turn my phone back on. i did that and its still not on. i even had one guy tell me he would turn it on if i would do him a favor! i want to talk to upper management myself but they will not give me a number and the number for the office in miami rings to the call center in another country

I've had my phone for over a year and just re-certified------if you get food stamps or any other type of federal assistance, you can reapply over the internet at their website-----if you are going by your income, you have to call and get the paper application to re-apply. I've never had any problems with them before. I also buy Safelink Wireless phone cards at my neighborhood CVS-----they are 30 minutes for 5.00 and 60 minutes for ten dollars. Just call your neighborhood CVS to find out if they participate. Good luck!

Is is me or do those minutes sounds very expensive...especially for a program that's supposed to be for low income households...I have an AT&T mthly plan and for 450 minutes I pay $40 a month...if I had to buy cards at the CVS, based on your numbers I'd spend $75 for the same 450 minutes !!!!!!!!!

I saw somewhere that you can use TracFone codes for Safelink. I don't think it would hurt to try?
Some days, it's not even worth chewing through the restraints.

You can get boost unlimited for $50 a month, web, email, text everything unlimted minutes, unlimted long distance, and you can use a nextel phone that has direct connect on it. If you cant afford one, request one on your freecycle site in your area.
If you cant afford the $50 a month, for a $1 a day you can have unlimted calling, for another $1 a day you can have unlimted direct connect.
Sounds like a better deal to me to do boost if your going to buy cards to go with this "free service"
