Mini, I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost my mom when I was 11, so I do know how you feel. My prayers are w/ you and your family.
She was 76 and she told me she wasn't in hardly any pain just super nauseated. Thats why I couldn't understand why they gave her the liquid morphine. She wasn't hardly taking anything for pain just pain pills. She said she always thought the pain was really bad when you had cancer but hers wasn't that bad, she said it was the nausea that made her feel bad not the pain. She was more sick because she couldn't eat because of the nausea than because of pain.

I believe the morphine shut her lungs down and they seemed to know it would because they were telling us she would die soon. I think morphine is what caused her death not the cancer. I never did understand why they gave her the morphine because she said she wasn't in a lot of pain just super nauseated from the chemo. She started breathing raspy and then just stopped.
Mini...i'm so sorry for your loss. That is a very young age. But, i just have to respond to this above comment...which is false info and may lead you to question her death and place blame where it does not lie....and possibly interfere with your normal grieving process.
this is your quote:
they tried giving her the maximum dosage of IV to fight the fluid but they just kept building up to the point her liver and kidneys started shutting down so they moved her a hospice house on Thursday
honey, this is what took her life in the end. her body was shutting down and being the civilized people that we are...we do not let people lay and suffer when we have medication readily available to help with the transition from this life to the next.
the noises we hear in the end is called terminal congestion. it comes from a decreased swallowing reflex and the accumulation of fluid in the lungs because the kidney's aren't functioning properly. this is also why there is swelling in the extremities. this is also why IV fluids are contraindicated for a person near the end of life............it overloads the system and worsens this symptom. people have a hard time understanding this....they think their loved one is dehydrated and suffering but dehydration is a normal process. it allows the person to slip away into unconsciousness or at least into another realm where the suffering is not so great.
There is always someone bigger and badder than you!

Morphine isn't just for pain. It helps with the terminal secretions i spoke about above. This website should help you understand the dying process a little better than lil old me can. It is very helpful.
