I don't take my eyes off my children--even for a second. They're that important to me. I'm not really comforted by their "security measures" and feel it's my duty as a parent to watch my child for every second that they're in there. My BIGGEST pet peeve for bringing my children to CEC or similar places (and the biggest reason that our visits there are rare) is the irresponsibility of the other parents there who think they can sit and eat pizza while their children play unsupervised. I would estimate that 80% of the children playing in CEC are not being watched by their parents and that's sad.

I guess it's a lesson learned for the parents in this situation that it's never okay to just assume that someone else is watching your child. JMO.

i agree totally with this. you can not place all your trust into your "friends" who are attending to their kids party to watch your child (especially when the parents are present...and in this case BOTH parents?) and then definitely never place all your trust into a place run by a bunch of minimum wage paid teenagers. i'm glad no perve was in the bathroom. i still stand outside the door when my 10 year old boy goes to the bathroom and if i feel it's taking to long i'll crack the door and holler in his name and say "you alright in there."

Now, why wasn't one of the parents watching the little boy? Chuck E. Cheese is not a babysitter. They have their entrance system as a safety feature but it does not replace parental supervision.
WHY in the world would responsible parents allow a group of small children to go to the restroom unattended? This makes no sense to me, even if it was a male child, a female parent could stand outside the door to "supervise"

Chuck E Cheese is not at fault, they have signs up about not leaving children unattended

Why didn't they find him when the parents checked the restrooms the first time? Or did they check the restrooms at all?

I responded, “Yes we have looked everywhere. We have looked all around the place, in the bathroom, up the tubes, etc”.
I wondered too about the fact she said she checked the bathroom and then the 2nd time they found him. It all seems strange to me...why tell the manager you checked if you hadn't really looked yet? There is a lot of blame on the parent here irregardless of CEC's responsibilities.

    I'm glad he is safe.

I am sorry for the scare your daughter had re your grandchild. That being said, whenever our children were invited to parties at CEC, one of us would stay, if all our children were invited, both DH & I would stay. Our children could not go anywhere without one of us.
I know I am paranoid, but I have never trusted our childrens' safety to other parents at a B'day party. There is usually too much going on that the parents have to be taking care of, so there is no way they could keep an eye on all the children. All it takes is a quick second for a tragedy to occur.
Could the management have done more? Yes, they probably could.
Are they responsible for the child missing? No, that's on the parent/person in charge.
Would I boycot CEC because of this? No, it was not their fault. They tell parents to keep an eye on their children.
Should the girl at the entrance have walked away? No, but the one's at the CEC my children went to were always present - on busy days they had 2.

Oh gosh... yet again I'm in the minority here... I truly think that the core issue here is the lack of concern CEC had. I think we all agree, and even Grandma should agree, that the parents should of been watching the kid. HOWEVER, I am floored by the fact that they did not call a Code Adam for this child. When I worked at Kohl's, we had a missing Hispanic kid and the Mama didn't know much English at all, but enough to tell us her baby was missing and did not speak English. We shut the store down... had managers at all doors, and ALL of the staff, including the janitors searched for that baby. Luckily she was just a tiny lil thing and was hiding in a clothes rack.
The least they could of done is a Code Adam. Even WALMART does that.

I don't really think that the people or child would've heard a page at Chuck E. Cheese. That place is so loud, with the games, kids, parents, etc., I just don't know how a page would've been heard anyways. That's one of the reasons I hate going there, I always end up with a headache.

Ok, I am going to start this whole thing over..........Would have it been different if I would have posted that CEC does not have a plan of action for a missing child. Really that was THE WHOLE POINT of this letter to let people be aware of that. Sure we know as any parent CEC is not and will never be a babysitter, but instead of bashing myself, daughter and son in law for trusting someone else with thier child can everyone just please look at the point that she is trying to make. If YOUR SISTER, BROTHER, MOTHER, ECT... had your child and they slipped away no matter the reason, would you really not want the establishment you were in to have a plan of action on how to make sure your child was found safe? That was the only point of this letter to make all of YOU aware of this problem and her fight to make sure thier company policy changes and a plan of action is put in and employees are taught this when trained for any job in the building. And for the record, nobody EVER said he was alone, his father went to look for him so he could watch his friend open gifts, It was not the point of the letter so she felt no need to tell them, ok well my son was with a group of people, he wondered off and we couldnt find him. Ok I have said my peace, at least I know even though we have been bashed in this thread you all now know CEC has no plan of action if your child happens to slip away from your side so I guess in some way her point did get out there.

I don't think anyone is bashing you.The bolded part scares me though,I have a 4 yr old.He would never run into a public bathroom without my knowledge.I have 4 kids and never were they able to take off to a public bathroom, that is as dangerous as letting them run into a crowded street. The parent needs to know where a small child is at all times.
