I'm getting BRACES!! I'm SOOO excited/nervous/scared cause i'm not sure what to expect! i have wanted and needed them for so long, i am willing to do anything to make my teeth straight. When i was younger, i was suppose to get braces, but my parents couldnt afford them. three of the five of us kids ended up with way crooked teeth. i have always hated my smile because of my teeth. My hubby FINALLY conceded to my asking (cough:Bit ching: cough) for braces. i also have bad eyes, but i have cool glasses and i also have contacts, so i can wear either when i want to. Not such a fast fix for teeth as for eyes!
So has anyone else here had "adult" braces and have any suggestions?
i'm just hoping to lose a few pounds too because of the pain/ pain in the butt to clean them, lol!

Take motrin before you have them put on and before visits to have them tightened. It's going to hurt but it will be worth it. Good luck!

My friend has braces.. she says it hurts when they are tightened but she likes pills so i think she makes it worse than it is as a excuse to pop pills. My stepson had them, and although he said there was discomfort, he still ate.
Just stay away from chips, popcorn, chewy and hard foods. Chew sugarless gum if you need to.
If ya ain't careful, this flea will bite your arse!

CONGRATS!!
I stuck to soft foods on the days I had them tightened.
And get you some chapstick. I don't know why but my lips were always dry.

I had braces in my early twenties and my advice to you is when you first get your wires on and you don't think it hurts, DO NOT toss a handfull of Reese Pieces in your mouth .. I did and it felt like every tooth in my mouth broke .. lol. You might not feel it right away, but your mouth will get sore. And, it isn't that bad. I also always carried a toothbrush and paste with me cause I couldn't stand food in my braces.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

Thats great!!! Its never to late to get them but have you thought about Invisilign? Supposedly it costs the same as regular braces and its invisible. If it was me though I wouldnt care as long as I got them and they helped!
