Help! I need to get rid of this smell!

I know I haven't posted in a while but I am in need of some help! We just bought a couch/loveseat set from someone and it's beautiful but the people smoked and it STINKS!

I have been febreezing it for DAYS and have gone through 2 bottles of febreze already. It's helped a little but it still stinks...what can I do to really get rid of the odor?

I know the easiest way is to just rent one of those steam cleaners but right now we are trying to save money for a house and everything needed for the house so I am trying to be as "cheap" as possible.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

This sounds really weird but it does work. Get some charcoal and put it inside the cushions, around the edges (inside of couch). After a couple of days you should notice a big difference. If it still smells keep doing it til the smell is gone. It will not hurt your couch.

We are smokers. When holidays roll around or family gathering I put charcoal around the house to absorb the odor. No one is the wiser.

    # Place a small amount of pure activated charcoal on moist saucers or ashtrays, and leave them inside a room overnight.
    # If you don't have activated carbon, you can use ordinary pulverized charcoal in place of activated charcoal. Make sure that you crush the charcoal into a fine powder before you place it in moistened saucers or ashtrays.
    # If there's a very rank smell of smoke in a room in your house (like your basement or the garage), buy some bags of ordinary charcoal. Lightly crush the lum

is there anyway to take the cushion covers off and wash them? I know that won't get rid of it all, but it would at least help a bit.

Odoban works wonders! You can find it at Home Depot, in the gallon size. I bought my son a used sofa for his room and it reeked of smoke. So I got some Odoban, put it in my steam cleaner and cleaned it. The smell was totally gone,I swear by it.

I wanted to add if you dont have a steam cleaner, you can make a solution of Odoban and water to use in a spray bottle and thoroughly wet the sofa and loveseat. A gallon of it costs about $10.

A dog is not almost human , I know of no greater insult to a canine than to describe it as such.

Odoban is all I use to do cleaning such as that, it gets out odors without a heavy floral smell, if Odoban cant do it, nothing will!

Actually last night I had my BF pick up some vinegar on his way home from work. We mixed some with water and sprayed it all over the furniture. Today it smells great! Well...it doesn't really smell like anything anymore. YAY! The smell is gone!

Will have to check into odoban though seeing as we're getting a puppy in a few weeks and it will probably come in handy.

    Thanks everyone!

Vinegar and water will work for puppy smells too. It's all I use in my carpet cleaner.
