Another of my goodwill finds
I found a bead necklace a while back at Goodwill. It has been just laying around on my night stand. I bought it(for $1) because I though it was cool looking, and it was definately an antique, and I thought the clasp might be gold.
I havent done anything with it, or researched it. I have had it about 8 months. I finally got a good look at it, and found some Hallmarks on it. 2 that I cant figure out. 1 that gave me some awesome info.
At the very least, the clasp dates back to somewhere between 1852 and 1906. That is the only time the hallmark on it was used in the Netherlands. http://www.adin.be/en/explanation-on...te-jewelry.htm
The stone in the clasp appears to be garnet. I am not sure what the beads are. Till I cleaned it, I thought the whole thing was jet or just black plastic. How wrong I was, lol.
I will post a pic in a little while, need to take some. The other 2 hallmarks appear to be a fish or mermaid or something, the only thing I can definately see is that it has a tail with 3 points on it. I saw one similar to mine on a website and it was going for over $700. This is that one: http://www.rubylane.com/shops/adin/iteml/RL-000380#pic1

Wow! You have a nack for finding treasures.
I really like the clasp. It's really pretty. The necklace looks like something my grandma would have worn. She loved her beads. Very nice find!!

Thank you. I think if it was strung with a lighter colored thread, the red would show better on the beads. It is strung with a black string.
I am still having no luck with the other hallmark. I am assuming it was the makers mark, but cant find any info on dutch jewelry makers from that or any other time period. I would love to know just to see how old it really is. LOL, I have it down to a possible 54 years. The one similar to mine is suppose to be from 1880.

Unforntunately, it doesnt fit me as a 2 strand. It is too tight. It was meant for a really skinny necked person, or it is a choker, lol, and I dont do chokers. My DD would love to have it, but she is not mature enough to care for it. Garnet is her birthstone.

I'd save it for a special birthday to give it to her when she is old enough.
