Diarrhea ~TMI~ Question, Help??? Ideas for relief? What would you do?
Okay ...................... TMI Warning!!! .......................................
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>
so I have had diarrhea for two full days going on three. It was coffee ground looking earlier today, which I read online can mean intestinal bleeding. Well no matter what I eat or drink it comes right back out with in minutes. I am so uncomfortable and miserable. I do not want to go to the ER, I want to try and stick it out until Monday and call the doctor, but I am scared. I also just started on Paxil last week and was thinking maybe it was a side effect. My stomach hurt the first day but now its just rumbly and I feel a bit nauseous.
I have taken the max doses of both Pepto and anti diarrhea pills, it seems to slow it down a little, but not elevate it all the way.
Is there anything else I can take or do to help? Would you stick it out or would you go to the ER?
~*UPDATE*~
Thank you all so much, I called the Dr on call and he says it is worry some with it being black and painful, but to go on all liquid and then try BRAT this afternoon, so far its a bit more solid and I have kept in some toast and rice. He had mentioned its most likely a virus, since I began the paxil more than a week ago its most likely not the meds.
He is going to fit me in Monday just to see how its going and if its still bad to see what he can do.Last edited by Unicornmom77; 04-25-2009 at 02:20 PM. Reason: update

I have never known of diarrhea to kill anyone without any other symptoms. There is a lot of flu going around. Make sure you stay hydrated that is the biggest issue. Good luck sweetie, I know its not fun.

ER. Medications such as Immodium do not help if it is bacterial, only an antibiotic will, and you can't tell unless doctors run the proper tests.
Two days is too long for this to continue. Try saltines and little sips of water to keep something down and go to the ER. Stick to the BRAT foods for a couple days after stopping to ease your system back into proper digestion.~*Masquerading as a NORMAL person, day after day, is EXHAUSTING!*~

I would go to the ER, you could dehydrate if it is that bad.

Did you look at your medication to see if this is a possible side effect? I heard once that anti diarrheals can make it worse not better. Hope you get to feeling better.

Paxil side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Contact your doctor promptly if you have any of the following side effects, especially if they are new symptoms or if they get worse: mood changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, agitation, aggressiveness, severe restlessness, mania (mental and/or physical hyperactivity), thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
easy bruising or bleeding (such as a nosebleed);
very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, overactive reflexes;
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, feeling unsteady, loss of coordination; or
headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, confusion, hallucinations, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing or breathing that stops.
Less serious Paxil side effects may include:
feeling nervous;
drowsiness, dizziness;
sleep problems (insomnia);
mild nausea, constipation;
weight changes;
decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm; or
dry mouth, yawning, or ringing in your ears.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
I got this info on this page: http://www.drugs.com/paxil.html
Sounds like you need to call your Dr.
If you type in "Paxil side effects" on google, it will bring up a multitude of information, also forums where users discuss it.
Good Luck.One Big Ass Mistake, America!

I would get to the ER or at least talk to the ER. It could be the paxil and you do not want to get dehydrated. Trust me on that, been there. Try drinking some propel or something like that. Seems to me like it could probably be the Paxil doing it. Stay hydrated!!!!!
